100%. the only sad part is baresi now has to be a politician at age 60. clearly he loves paolo and respects milan's values, having to walk on eggshells in order to continue working there.
Yes, freedom of speech is out the door.

N'Dicka turned Milan (maldini) down last summer so he could leave as a free agent, per GDM.

Would be kinda funny (and strange) if he ended up here after wasting a year w his club.
He thought he was better then he really is and hoped a bigger club with more money would show up and he ended up in fucking Roma and Moncada will probably offer him more money then Paolo last year.

“But there is another detail that should have made Paolo Maldini understand what the outcome of his relationship with the shareholder would have been.

“A few months earlier, the Rossoneri technical director sent Gerry Cardinale a draft of a three-year investment plan to be implemented at Milan following the model of sustainable football. He never received a response to that email.”

It seems Maldini had a medium term transfer plan in mind. You don't have to spend the same amount every year. So i'm thinking that he had a 3 year net transfer budget in mind. Let's say 200 mil net spend for 3 years. Then you can have a plan to spend 100 mil of that in the 1st year to plug all the holes in the team and build a super strong team of players, who are going to be around the next few years. Then, it's ok if you do a smaller net spend the next 2 years. Plus with a strong team in place, the prices of all your players increase which make it easier to make big sales in the subsequent years. Lets say Milan buy a striker for 35 mil, but in 2 years Camarda is really good so they sell the 35 mil player for 70 mil and replace him with Camarda, or in 2 years you sell Maigan for 90 mil because the 18 year old keeper from Ligue 1 turns out really good. It's kind of like what Marina was doing at Chelsea when they sold Hazard for over 100 mil plus other transfers like Tammy Abraham, Diego Costa, Tomori, etc... Even Real Madrid had some good sales like Casemiro for 80 mil, Odegaard to Arsenal,..etc

Basically once you build a top team, it creates a virtuous cycle that creates more revenues and more winnings.

I actually don’t mind if we go for free transfers FIRST.

Makes sense actually. Whatever our budget is, we can allocate it to the positions we don’t fill up with the free transfers.

Say we go for Ndicka, Tielemans, Kamada and Thurman

Let’s say we sign Kamada and ndicka we signed a CB and CAM, we know the budget can be used on RW, CM, and ST for example.

Also I don’t mind the Ndicka signing….for anybody not understanding, Kalulu will end up being back up RB since Florenzi isn’t reliable. Kjær is aging and injury prone too. Gabbia is useless.

So signing Ndicka gives us a viable CB option, who can also play LB allowing ballo toure to leave. So pretty much ballo’s wages go to Ndicka, and we have a better player who can cover multiple positions.

Suma says up until last summer the Milan purchases were made as a collective

Once Maldini got the autonomy he wanted he went at it alone which shows in the last market

Kinda gross that the club is shitting on Maldini but they clearly want a certain message out
….. but Adli was bought two summers ago.

I don’t disagree, but in the case of Botman we moved on to a cheaper alternative in Thiaw, who I think proved to be very bit as good as Botman, especially because it’s not like Thiaw was surrounded by high performers… Thiaw walked into a defense that looked like ******s trying to fuck a doorknob and did an amazing job (remember Kalulu committing a red card slide on Thiaw lol).

^ so, in this case they stuck to that formula and it worked.

Oddly, they didn’t do that with CDK. Someone on the management team was so convinced with CDK that they decided to go substantially over their offer and what we can assume they tagged his value at.

That was a case where we should have walked away and used that 35M elsewhere.
Even the biggest Pioli haters would probably agree that coming off scudetto Pioli probably deserved more say on at the type of players coming in.

Regardless of how good the players we got last summer ended up, I didn’t like how we kinda just snooped around for what was available. Maldini was a little Galliani esque in that regard. CDK or Botman? Enzo or Renato? Thiaw or Ndicka? CDK(again) vs Dybala? I know it was a limited budget but our targets were all over the place.

We used to be very good about saying “we want this type of player” and we would get that. Even if our first target wasn’t available, and hell even if the player we signed sucked(Ballo Toure is the clearest case of this). But you could see what the idea was.

So again, even though I think Maldini didn’t deserve to be fired after one bad season, I can see where the direction changed some. I expect the analytics dorks to get back to that OG direction we were staying in, and I expect the team to look more like Pioliball we knew before. Faster and more direct. If we can look like lockdown Milan again that would be amazing.
Agree. By the sounds of Pioli had input before the last mercato. It turns out Gazidis was the glue holding it all together

I've been visibly frustrated with this season just because of how confusing it was from top to bottom

And all these leaks and stuff offer so much clarity because the shift from what has made this club successful has been so drastic over the past season
I think you guys are reading too much into this "sudden change" to be honest, connecting dots about "Pioli didn't use these players, that came in when Maldini took over!" I'll tell you why: Yacine Adli.

Adli might have joined the squad last year but he was bought two years ago, during the magical "transfer times" which seems to be the new "post-lockdown utopia" but for transfers.

Maybe Pioli is actually an incompetent who doesn't even understand how to maximize his own system? Or worse? What he actually wants to do is... bad?

Well, he won nine consecutive scudetti at Juve, so that's pretty good. Also won a scudetto and now is in CL final with loans and free transfer so I don't think anyone in Italy has done better....oh I forgot he got Pogba on a free and sold him for 90 millions, not to mention the selling of Lukaku for 113 million Euros and then got him back on loan. Got Hakimi for 67 millions and replaced him with Dumfries for 15. So, yes, I rate him among the top 5 in Europe.

He's definitely very good, The Pogba sale was amazing. Still, for example Giuntoli won the scudetto this year with better transfers and less spending on salaries and a lower loss than Inter, as did Milan last year. Napoli are a self sustaining team as are Atalanta, Benfica, Ajax,..etc. Inter have to depend on their owners to pay for their losses.

And even at Juve, they were spending huge amounts and making losses that the owners had to cover up. And some of the losses that he made were even covered with fake / inflated transfers and inflated sponsorships from Fiat / Jeep.

Go back to his interview after winning the title ... what did he say?
- he famously asked for the 3 big players but he also said we will see if this ownership group believes in building towards the elite level or just maintenance.

Starting this year we will see how they approach it and if that method actually works in the near future.

I am more of than ok if we only keep 6-7 first team players and promote primavera players to replace the departing garbage.

I thank paulo for trying his best, but last season was humiliating to him more than fans.

It’s better if we try different approach now.

Redbird has every right to run the club the way they want. And as Milan fans we sure must pray their approach works out.

I do not care about names, targets and players, I just don’t want to witness a season like last one.

Honestly the way things are going right now I think we could be in line for a Mirabellend style revolution with a dozen or so players leaving and being replaced. For example, you could sell both Messias + Salad for 15m and use the money to sign Zhegrova and add Bouanani for just a few million extra.

Because like I said earlier, I'd be shocked if most of these players are still on the roster next season bar a handful e.g. Mirante, Pobega + Krunic.

Tata, Mirante, BT, Dest, Florenzi, Gabbia, Baka, Pobega, Krunic, Vranckx, Ibra (too old), Rebic, Origi, Messias, CDK (Dybala was free!)

Yes, exactly, Maldini wanted to build an elite from right now and not wait. I found the news of the 3 year plan interesting, because that's what I've been saying for some time, that you can build an elite and be sustainable as well. Maybe the 1st year you spend more because you have to fix all the holes in the team, but then you make up for that by lower net spending and a few good sales in the subsequent years.

Thuram is a must.
He is quality & for free.
Moncada probably wanted him & Ndicka but Maldini didnt.
Hopefully Moncada isnt too late.
Based on what other than your mood? The more I hang around RnB the more I understand how easy it is to start a war.

If we go for N'dicka we have to sale one of our defenders. Gabbia or Kjaer. Maybe Tomori for big amount?

If have to sell on of our starters, let it be Tomori. And not anyone else
I don't see kjaer staying next year sadly, goes against youth project and isn't good for the lists like gabbia

Pioli fields him as 3rd/4th cb and thiaw has cemented his place next year after this season. Don't see the moncada method mixing youth and veterans like Maldini's vision.
