I agree. I consider Nadal the greatest based on having played against the other 2 at their greatest, while consistently having massive injury issues. Also considering him being best on the toughest surface to play edges him ahead for me. Imagine if two grand slams were on clay.

So if clay is the hardest and Nadal is the best because he has the most slams on the hardest surface to play on, how come he didn't do as well on the "easier" surfaces?

I don’t get this argument either. There is no such thing as a hardest surface to me.

For Nadal clay it’s the easiest because it suits his heavy top spin game.

For Federer grass is the easiest because of his offensive all court game and knifing slice.

For Djokovic hard court is the easiest because of his his consistency, defence, movement and sliding.

It’s all about their style of play that makes them more suitable for each surface.

Currently for the new generation, grass is the hardest for them to play.

A lot of injuries sadly. His tendonitis/knees really suffered on hard surfaces. And he also had some really unlucky ones like stomach viruses and appendix. Just really unfortunate timings.

Exactly. Clay is considerably slower as well and dominated by French and Spanish players who spend most of their youth years playing on the surface. It was never a surprise that Nadal won on Clay courts. It was a much bigger accomplishment to see other players winning and beating Nadal there.

This is one of the reasons why I've never considered him anywhere near GOAT status as much as I did Novak and Roger. Nadal dominated French open. That's about it. Novak and Roger have their GS spread out over different tournaments and surfaces.

I'm aware of what I mean. Toughest, most difficult. Slower, longer rallies, more physical, more demanding to hit winners, more mentally draining. Also less oppurtinities for servebots.

To make it clear, I'm not advocating for Nadal here. But you missed my point, and at the same time proved it again.

As I said, looking at stats on the whole is bit deceiving. Since the two played in the same era and against each other's best tennis, the numbers to focus on are the head to heads. And they are so close, it's impossible to separate. As I mentioned and you pointed out, Djoko has more overall h2h wins...but if majors are SO important as everyone points out, we'll Nadal has more h2h wins in the majors - that's a stat you didn't provide.

For what it's worth, I hope Djokovic is considered the goat for long to come. I'm on that boat. But I think it's fair to recognize that there us practically no difference between him and Nadal in the conversation and other that see it differently, do have a good point and argument.
