A manager imprints himself on his team and you can tell he gets nervous when those CL lights are bright

It's no wonder Pep's teams consistently shrink in those big CL moments. I mean hell even Inter was bossing them around. A more than fair criticism of Pep
People bemoan Ancelotti only winning 2 CLs with Milan, but Pep only winning 1 in 8 years with City is a much bigger failing.

Talk about style of play, luck, alopecia all you want. What matters is the end result and at the highest level of the game the guy has underperformed with the most expensive cheatinest squad in history. With every possible advantage, he has as many European titles over that period as Tuchel.

Sam still in shock that mbappe played for monaco

Bless his heart
I knew that, I just didn't bring it up.

The fact Bakayoko was there was funny.

Don't worry, Lyon and Tottenham still knocked Pep out.

Pioli needs a statue just for breaking the hold of positivity force :proud:

Do we need to roll out the Eto'o interview about speaking to the team or the Ibra interview about Pep hiding

Is Arsenal really impressive?
Chelsea and Utd cant get out of their way and Liverpool has been on and off
Well in the league I do think Arsenal are impressive, they are 2-3 players and some experience short of being a quality team

but I just mean in a league where 7 clubs are throwing around hundreds of millions every year and for you to come out on top consistently is pretty ridiculous

It's the equivalent of Milan in the 90s

Lyon was during covid so doesn't really count

The way the sport works those lesser teams will always be able to bother you if they adopt the right gameplan. You can dominate a relegation team for 90 minutes but all they need is one counter. There are ways to even the playing field on the pitch

Having to play 38 games evens that stuff out

Pep's City tenure will have an asterisk on it and rightfully so but can't fault him for it
I like leagues as a measure, but the corruption in Italy makes it difficult for me to value it.

Juve and Inter have had such blatant periods of cheating and contrasted with such consistent failure in Europe that it inclines me to the CL as the greater barometer even further than I already am philosophically.

Pep has his two best periods with serious cheating involved.

Dude made a career out of hiding in the ucl

Last one to speak tbh.
please man Ibra lives rent-free in his head

ever since Ibra criticized him in his book about how no players want to fight for a stoic coach like Pep, he's been the most animated clown on the pitch

Different championships measure different strengths.

There are sprints and there's long distance
Both measure different things.

Of course the most expensively assembled and supported team will be better over time. (Marathon). Just considering the depth factor alone means that City is the best in Europe

But there definitely is something to be said about being at a level when it is required (sprint). Being able to improvise and get results.

Carlo beat City with one of the best strikers in the world....without a proper CF. That's an achievement. Him getting this far while having to convert midfielders into CB's as there were SEVERAL massive injuries was also an achievement.

Being able to COPE with Pep's impressive game plan is also something you shouldn't turn your nose up on.

What gets me about this whole thing is that when Pep wins, it's because he's a genius and a philosopher etc. But when he loses the opponent NEVER gets the credit....in fact his losses are explained away as being insignificant. This is extremely annoying.

Pep does that to ya tbh

Even watching the game yesterday it made me laugh

For 90 minutes dominating the opposition and making them camp outside their box is crazy.

As if real were down to 10 men.

That alone is something I love about Peps teams. To dominate in such a manner against another pro team. Crazy

he dominated his team out of CL, good job

Secondly thinking control and possession is the only way to win games or be a better team is such a backwards way of thinking.

Remember this folks when they come after Padre

Parking the bus is anti football hence why those who do eventually win vs Pep will never be recognised.

They lose every year though - even back in the United terror years they found a way to win

I know we're 100% going to the Champions League, but now that Italy got 5 UCL spots here's how many points (4) we'd need to mathematically secure UCL for next season.

There you go Sam

This is why Capello is respected despite losing 2 UCL finals.

4 league titles in 5 seasons in what was the toughest league at that time.

There are also other factors that gives Capello a pass.

What about Calciopoli if you want to evaluate Carlo?
