El shaarawy isnt as good as leao, but he played really good for the team.
You dont need a leao or 1 “star” player to win games.
You need heart and a well organized team.
Girona have trash players, but they are 3rd in la liga. Leicester had kinda bad players back in the day, but they won the league.

And you need a coach with an actual vision and plan.

Pioli just played Calabria as our CM, Musah as our RWB, and held Theo back, while letting Gabbia roam forward like Bastoni.

Pioli benched Reijnders for Bennacer and Musah, and played against Roma with 10 men for an hour and did fucking nothing but tell his players to aimlessly cross.

This is the most prime example of a manager fucking up, and our games against Inter, and countless others. But this is Pioli’s masterpiece.

I wasn’t even referencing the Roma game in particular. That one is all Pioli.

I was making a more general comment. If we want to be a dominant force in Europe again we need much better players than we have. We have a lot of mid players that are vastly overrated by our fans here and maybe after Pioli who is mediocre as fuck is gone will some people finally accept this very simple reality
