There is no confusion for me at all...a true leader has to bleed for the team, his badge...Tonali has the Milan DNA...he fight for every match...I still remember how he push away Dumfries in the derby...I still remember how he use his clumsy knee touch to win against Lazio that literally bring us the title...a true leader brings special moments...a true leader brings miracles. I dont see anyone in current squad that really has the quality being a leader and can be the soul of the team...and how you compare at the time Jan to Mar 2023 he was a 23 year old player and he maybe not mature enough. But he is the closest that we have to be nurtured as a real leader. Bear in mind the management not able to renew Calhanoglu and Kessie which is tearing the whole midline apart and that was a very tough situation at that time. It is not really Tonali not able to take his leadership.I think you're absolutely right that the team lacks leaders. But what you attribute to Tonali is wrong and based on transfiguration. Remember the phase from January to March 2023. We were so bad, Maldini wanted to bring in Pirlo as coach and there was already a lack of leaders, while Tonali was on the pitch and was sometimes invisible or even overburdened.
You're confusing identification figure and leader. However, it has to be said that this team lacks both. Reijnders and Pulisic, who always give their all and pull the cart out of the mud as they did against Como, are the closest to fulfilling these roles.
It's noticeable here that we haven't managed to integrate players from the Primavera since Donnarumma and that we've lost Romagnoli and Kessie.
I'm also not sure whether we'll get it fixed so quickly, because growing something like this takes time and patience. What don't we have? Time and patience.
Just look at how many fans have already written off Gimenez. That's totally stupid. The transition from Holland to Serie A is big, he had no pre-season. Give him six months to settle in.
Look at Hugo Etikite in Frankfurt. Even in the Bundesliga he was a ghost for half a year and not a factor. Now he's playing a strong season.
Football is a shitty and idiotic business.
As you mention Pulisic and Reijnders, I agree they are good players but they are not leaders. Leaders have to bring the team together and now what they shown is they can perform well but the whole team unfortunately is falling apart.
