Lucarative television contracts in England guarantee every club in the PL a hefty transfer kitty. Sunderland are going to have something like £50 or so to spend this summer.

Gattuso seems likely to leave the Rossoneri, and has already agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich to join them this summer.

The 30-year-old will hold talks with Adriano Galliani this week, where the Milan transfer guru will attempt to persuade him to stay.

"Mr Gattuso has a great contract and now must let us know what he intends to do, as we did when Sheva wanted to go to Chelsea,” said Galliani.

"He has always said, moreover, that he's taken more than he deserves from us, so he must assume his responsibilities and make us understand if he does not want to stay."

If these talks are unsuccessful, Milan will allow Gattuso to be sold to Bayern, and according to La Stampa, will try to sign Real Madrid’s Mahamdou Diarra as a direct replacement.

The Malian has been tipped to leave the Spanish champions for quite sometime now due to his frosty relationship with Coach Bernd Schuster.

Inter Milan had seemed to be the hot favourites to snap up the 26-year-old, however now city rivals Milan are preparing to hijack their deal.
