There's a theory I may try, but it's probably pushing it....as long as the speedhacks are enabled, you can take the framerate limits to any figure (try 300) for more speed....maybe not a good idea as there's always the elastic limit in these matters..


What got me so angry was when a bloke asked if his machine could run PCSX2 on Yahoo! Answers..he had a duo core of like 2.6 GHz, 4Gb RAM and an nvidia card, think it was a GeForce.


The answer from an 'expert'? No.




Up till that point I'd been trawling the Web, looking for the ultimate speed-up setting (av. framerate inplay for me then was 22fps or thereabout :/), to no avail.


The Yahoo! Answers 'expert' was my breaking point..had to discover things for myself. Almost gave up at a point though.

Something about VRAM (old name..well in these days of integrated GPU memory it's still kind of right, but just a bit old-skool VRAM was simply RAM bandwidth from the CPU die that was used for computing on the GPU level on older computers........ah, forget that lecture..anyway..)

From my experience with the Internet and (countless) forums in recent times, I've kind'f found out that the great majority of people don't know shit when it comes to tech matters. Yes.

The nerds are there but they are few..if you're not careful you'll just get all sorts of SHITTY advice...WARNING: if you need gaming/computing advice when it relates to hardware esp., keep away from general purpose communities like Yahoo Answers and the rest..stay with geek forums. Even there you may get misled by some newfag at times so be on the guard.


Personally I'm a bit geeky myself with some computing skill so I only check up on the forums as a last resort...and I have my circles, believe me those guys are hash pros. I keep learning as much as I can everyday.


On point, the ret*rd who told you that you need 2Gb vid cache memory to run PCSX2 fluidly should be crucified. WTF..512Mb can run that, with just a bit of hassle. I've given you the settings you need.

If somehow you want to max out the emu, since you have a capable GeForce try setting the graphics plugin to Hardware, DX10 or 11 depending on emu support. Hi res...if you need those settings lemmie know. If you're rendering via Software (for low-grade GPUs) be sure to tick the Native box so you get the exact graphics you'd get on a PS2 console...since you have a duo core 2, set rendering threads to 2 to maximise.



A good number of netizens are a bit dumb when it comes to specs..just like our brains, only a few people know how to utilise their CPU clock speed to even half its potential...you see someone with a Quad core complaining about running, say, a 2011 game..MULTI-THREADING is the way to go. Sadly not many software writers/engine designers implement parallel processing protocols in their code as it's time consuming and all, but sometimes they leave room for you to do the 'dirty work'..all you have to do is visit the .ini file and viola, you actually have your two/four cores working for you. Most software (even today) come with single-threading as default.


Make sure you download mem cards for the emu too (Mcd001.ps2 and Mcd002.ps2)..depending on your version (and the speedhack activation) savestates may be problematic.

Didn't have it long too? It frustrating playing a Smackdown here comes the pain at 34 FPS. It playable at that speed but I am not very patient.

How much FSP do you regularly get?

^^^sorry for the late reply..if you meant FPS, it's around 43 at the lowest and around 68 at the highest during intensive gameplay. When paused or during some 'low activity' periods, it usually hits btw 89 and 118..yeah.

I posted the averages of all those on the page before this, have a look at that..or maybe I'll just quote them.

final fixes for slow emulation on pcsx2 (tested with kingdom hearts 2, other games may need some more tweaking)

av. Fps for fmvs ('cutscene' vids): ~50

av. Fps during gameplay: ~58

min. Cpu usage in-play: 76%, max: 94%

min. Ram usage in-play: 37%, max: 49%. Only the pcsx2 window and wexplorer were open at the time.

Tested with a duo core ~ 2ghz, ram 2gb, gcm (graphics cache memory) ~800mb

make sure there's adequate space for savestates if you're not using memory cards (shouldn't be a problem..my first ss was approx. 18mb, probly is the standard......savestates are cleaner and easier to work with than memcards imo)


version: 0.9.7.3xxx

emulation settings


* use default settings for ee/iop.....ditto, vus (microvu recompiler!!)

*the part that makes all the difference....gs: Leave all as default, change ntsc and pal framerate (limit) to 199.94 fps


* tweak gs window to suit your tastes..leave vsync alone!

* the other tweak that matters: Speedhacks..enable it first. Set ee cyclerate slider to 3, set vu cycle stealing slider to inbtw 2 and 3. Enable intc spin, wait loop, mvu flag hack and mvu block hack.

*except you're playing one of the listed games, leave gamefixes disabled

I'm not sure the plugin settings really matter..the emulation settings are most important from my findings. Here are the plugins I use:

Graphics: GSdx 3693....SSE2

Pad: LilyPad 0.10.0

Audio: SPU2-X 1.4.0

Cdvd: cdvdGigaherz 0.8.0 (when you need to dump ISOs from actual PS2 discs, switch to the Linuz ISO Cdvd plugin, if available....whenever you can, try using ISOs..reading from your DVD drive will *surely* slow down emulation)

USB: null plugins (for debugging purposes only, no parameters to tweak...on newer versions of PCSX2 you'll find '1 variable' plugins aka those that do work)

Firewire (FW): same as for USB

DEV9: same as above

Make sure you enable patches/automatic fixes on the main GUI

The speedhacks really affect sound..no matter how you set up the audio plugin the sound will be laggy and will skip at some points ..at the time I've not discovered any way around this. Apart from that trade-off, everything's great.


Now you can re-live your fave PS2 titles without getting the antique console ..if you're wary of downloading the ISOs, simply get the dvd, dump the ISO (via the technique I mentioned earlier), compress it and viola...it's yours for as long as you want.

Two things..like I stated earlier, don't expect crisp sound..that's the trade-off for emu speed. The other small issue are savestates..they may be faulty at times (my experience) so download a memory card file instead...one slot should do as each game space is HIGHLY compressed..we're talking like 50kb max.

The mem card itself is 8mb.
