Yup, didn't think about that..the ported versions are usually so-so....emphasis seems to be on consoles these days. :/

Explain..

Developers lose money when a game is pirated, a large percentage of PC games are pirated.

Take The Witcher 2 for example.. They sold 1 million but 4 million were pirated. not very beneficial to developers.

I'd say it's much more to do with the number of people who play console games rather than pc games, than piracy tbh.

Let's see if this is what you meant..the quality of pirated pc games goes a lot lower than the originals?

Wrong. 'Pirated' pc games are typically original versions with cracks or patches that edit registry keys to bypass registration/activation via the normal channels. That doesn't hamper the game's quality in any way, Vx7.

As for pirated console games, that's a whole different matter altogether.

You can thank piracy for that.

No, I wasn't referring to quality. I was implying that the reason for console focused gaming is because of Piracy. But like hdcantona said it could just be that the majority prefers consoles...

... I hope I made sense.

I'm not sure I know the processes involved in pirating console games, but they are just as pirated as pc games anyway. Esp. with GeoHotz hacking away at the PS3 :/

There's no escaping pirated games either way. Which brings me to the SOPA issue but that's not what we're on here.

Gotta game ps.

LOL wut? There`s more people playing pc games then console games.Console games are not that pirated because the fan base compared to pc games is not even close.

Also there`s tons of pirating going on in the console world also.

More people than consoles? I doubt it, and either way they're pirated much more, which probably explains why PC gamers don't get the same attention, they don't sell anywhere near as many so why bother? Pirated console games are much more rare.

Pirated console games come up on torrents the same day pirated pc games come up.You are probably just using shitty torent sites if you cant find a pirated versions of any game out there.

And yeah a lot more people play pc games because Pc gaming world has two huge advantages :mmorpgs(even though i personally hate em)and strategy games .Does two genres alone have more fans then all the console games combined.

Last but not least,pc games have a competitive scene that the console world does not come even close.

Anyway for me its like this:

-Pc if i want to play the best games out there.
-Console if you are over at a friends house and want to have some meaningless fun.

You have no idea.........

On torrents, perhaps, except you're going for raw ISOs, but on the black market worldwide.....in the millions, maybe billions, of hardcopy pirated games.

It's more difficult to pirate for console, I'll put it this way. I own 3 FM's on the pc, I have bought none. I, and nobody I know pirates console games, the one I have known had his console banned from live.

Fair enough, you have shite like WoW, but the titles that get released on platforms? I guarantee the PC gets shit on for sales and people playing them online so why would a developer bother to specifically accomodate for them?

A competitive scene? That's all well and good if you're a fat 16 year old with zero social skills, but the casual person doesn't give a fuck, the competitive side is a tiny fraction.

A good gaming PC is A. Too much money and B. Too much hassle.

Casual gamers dont bring you money the way does little obssed kids do,or to keep the flow going : nerds who live in there moms basements.

The most played games out there are pc games ,and most of them are free to download and play. What you pay for is the extra content in the game, like skins for your character or this buff and that and so on.

Its a brilliant strategy, that way you dont pay just one time for the game, you keep paying and paying them shitloads of money.Or games like wow that have monthly subscriptions, and its this games that have the most number of people that play them, not the casual console gamers .

Well yeah but I wasn't talking about those, your original post was on GTA. When something gets released on all platforms, PC suffers.

Paraphrase: "When multi-platform games are released, PC suffers."

True, but apart from that Kalac seems to have no point whatsoever.

You hear such weak 'arguments' from any of those fat, console-gaming 16-yr-old nerds with no social skills forever locked in their mum's basement. :D Like that forty-something with the weird hair in the first Men In Black movie. :D

Yeah. Lost revenue for developers is a real BIG issue..700k pirated 360 games should amount to roughly $40mil lost by Microsoft. Not funny.

Unlike maybe artistes who seem to actually get a boost from illegally downloaded songs, the good nerdy designers, coders, writers, artists, engine designers, CGI folks, storyboarders, contracted orchestras or ensembles (for the OST), (viral) marketers, promoters, QA folks, online managers and even the in-house goffers gain nothing. There're no live concerts to recoup lost earnings (except maybe the conventions). But you'd say there're some monthly suscriptions for PREMIUM services online, but it ends there.

And the funniest part is, bringing down the price won't stem piracy. Even if it's a couple cents, why bother when you can get it freeeeeee?

Too bad.

Console piracy isn't as bad as PC piracy because you'd need to touch up hardware ('chip' the console as the lingo is here) and that may be inconvenient to some, but it's alive and well. Can't say about the rest of the world (the stats are there for any doubting Thomas) but here in Africa, specifically Naija, and in Asia, the homebrewing/pirating business is BIG. There's a major software centre in Lagos (basically computer software and lots of hardware too), and another (basically console games and the consoles themselves). Large expanses of markets, really large. Now, the hardware (iPads, laptops, smartphones, routers, VDUs, printers, any peripherals you can think of) are ALL original..the retailers do have deals with Dell, Acer, Toshiba, HP, Apple, Nokia and what have you. Nice and good. Only 'fake' goods you'll find are a couple Chinese phones or headsets here and there for the (extremely) poor. That's for hardware.

Software otoh? Forget it. Yes, some clean retailers sell the originals, but in the Villa (any Lagosian would know :) ) for every original software sold you have like 20 or more pirated versions peddled. Bad. :(

Same for consoles. At AI, all the consoles there are original, though there are 'facilities' for those who wish to 'chip' them. But you're buying it in the box first. Even in the days of NES, most were shipped straight from Japan with one or two cartrigdes to play with in-box. My first ever gaming experience was SF in an Osaka Japan box housing the NES console..never will forget that. :proud:

Then the games themselves..just like at the Vil some good folks sell the original versions, but there are shelves upon shelves sagging under the weight of pirated copies for the 'chipped' console. Literally numbering in the millions. ALL of them coming from Asia, or at least 90% of them. Some of the PES or FIFA titles actually have Nigerian or global hits embedded in them, so instead of hearing a Queen track while setting up your formation and tactics, you'd likely hear a D'banj tune. Meaning there are Nigerians over there working with the (mostly) SE Asian blackhats in pirating the games, making a killing in the process.

That's just a bit of shed light on the pirating of vid games here, and I'm sure it works that way in some other African countries, even the almighty SA.

The story's probably the same all over Asia. :(

For those *still* thinking we don't game here, wow. The only proof lacking is the fact that we still don't have inexpensive broadband yet, though we should in the next 3 years or less....can't be made to pay roughly $100 monthly just because I want to game online..and that with fucking annoying data caps as well. :(

We lack that presence in MM0Gs, but we'll be there soon. Offline though, man...with all my experience, I'm a minnow compared to some dudes I know..though they tend to be fantastic in football games and combat games (SF, Tekken, MK, Soul Calibur...), but a bit average on the shooters and 'adventure' titles, and war strat titles on PC.

My neighbours have played soooooooo many games (lucky to have their parents and younger bro in London so they send them everything :jealous: :D..in one of the vids on my channel you'd see they have a Wii, 360 and PS3), more than myself and :star:bro:star:, but fsr they seem to be addicted to Mario Kart Wii (and FIFA 12 currently).

Are some of you kidding?

Alan Wake became profitable mere hours after it's release on Steam. Cthulhu Saves the World sold more copies on Steam in a day than in months of console land. And these are only 2 examples. Games on GoG and Steam get bought even decades after their original release dates and even manage to get in the top 10 most sold (including the #1) while competing with Skyrim and the likes. Profitability on PC is easy to attain and lasts much longer.

A pirated copy not only is not a lost sale, but it's not a loss of profit. You don't host the game for pirates so you don't pay for bandwidth, which is the only way you could lose a buck from someone getting a cracked game.

These videos explain things well:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/vid...08-Piracy-Trying-To-Kill-It-Makes-It-Stronger

PS: I dunno where you got those The Witcher 2 numbers, but I am willing to bet they are wrong.

The Mass Effect 3 ending was worse than I could have imagined. I was so skeptical about the shit storm around it and doubted what I saw as "haters", but Holy Quetzalcoatl, they were right.

It is the ultimate sucker punch for people who love the universe and their characters.
