Awesome first half, but disappeared later. But his performance in the first half... what the fuck! Mixture of calmness, arrogance, exquisite technique, creativity, and huge guts.

Absolutely loved his game in the first half. Made fantastic passes and some ridiculous flicks. On the other hand, he didn't show up for the rest of the game.

Ibra is going to love Monto's little flick pass I have a feeling they'll have a beautiful relationship on the field.

Awful performance tonight. He is 27, where is his mentality? He has no passion at all and he is so fucking slow..slower than Pirlo at his age. He reminded me the way Ibra's is playing. But Ibra scores goals. In the midfield we need someone that except from all the other attributes has to mark. I don't want to imagine a Milan with Ibra, Cassano and Montolivo especially in a cl game!

apart from the PK, good game, his lob pass for balotelli in the first half was great, played as a CM and did well.

gives italy more in terms of attack/passing but better than motta IMO.

I hope playing with Zlatan and a top team gives Montolivo more confidence, I was not impressed today. Did anyone give him the memo that Pirlo was the designated lazy+brilliant player, cause I saw this guy being way too lazy today.

He was pretty solid all game, just got tired at the end (by the end I mean 70th minute of the 2nd half), but he did have a really good game before that...he made some really really nice passes. He's a weird player, I do think he needed the move to a bigger team cause he does have the cocky attitude that can get desinterested when he's not in an important game, yet, that inexperience of top calibre games tends to affect his performances.

you need to calm the fuck down brah.

Monty was forced to be more defensive after DDR went off. he did his job well and left it for Pirlo to be the star.

Didn't see that at all bar one time late when he was just standing on the edge of the box with Balo staring at his teammates in possession not even attempting to make himself available.

Otherwise, he was popping up all over the place, dropping real deep to help initiate and then combining in and around the box.

He played some wonderful balls early

Such a class act.
I'm so happy we got him.

Much better than Man Utd, City, Arsenal starters.

Well of course you get tired after 120 minutes. So did everyone else.
Montolivo was great, created alot, worked hard, great passing. Our new RM .

He is either a butt hurt English fan or a Ladri!

I m Greek man and I was supporting Italy today. If all of you guys are happy with him only because is a new signing never mind. If you liked his mentality, his bravery his passion and his speed I am with you. You can also tell me that Cassano was awesome today...I will agree. But at least make sure you will understand that we wont see a champions league in the next 5 years. It 's a matter of perspective. Juve has Vidal Milan has montolivo...If you are happy with that you support the wrong team!

Definitely his best game against quality opposition. (Quality opposition?! Possibly!)

Shame for his PK miss, but bossed the midfield like a champ!

*Awaits the influx of Niff Nuffs adding Montolivo to their favourite players' section* :o

Mont was good at delivering the balls early today and was able to hold possession for italy.
You could tell Mont would miss the penalty though.
Its a shame though to see how good Pirlo was today after he left us , hopefully Mont can transform himself into half the player Pirlo is and we will have a gr8 player.

Pirlo lacked motivation at Milan. His position was safe and untested. Complacency set in. And, we never had the width to salt his game -- this being the case with mediocre attacking fullbacks. Worst thing for Milan was Pirlo going to Juventus. The best thing for Italy was Pirlo going to Juventus.

But, Monty was great today!

Monty played well, thought he did much better when he started playing the ball from deeper. He naturally wants to sit where maestro sits and has to remind himself he should be higher up the pitch. Once he starts to gel with our style he will be great.

Still he covered more distance than any other player

Top 3
1. Montolivo: 11662m
2. Balzaretti: 11591m
3. Pirlo: 11575m
Source: UEFA
(English players included, none of them made it to Top 3 though)

Not bad for a player who supposedly was unfit.
