What I mean is, everybody hyped him up so high that when he didn't become Golden Ball material, he became hated by many simply due to their own emotional investment in a human being. Some things that went wrong were perhaps out of his hands, and other negative things that occurred could be placed on his shoulders.
I don't feel sorry for him, but I don't feel the need to call him a complete failure, either. Let alone feel the need to harm him, as some Corinthians ultras felt they needed to attempt. That shit is just insane and wildly inhumane.
Hype is fun and exciting; I get it. But folks need to keep their expectations in check.
