I haven't seen more than 90 mins of Pato in the last year but he seems slower, less confident, less willing to take players on, inconsistent in his finishing.
Even the way he moves around the field looks funny, it's like he doesn't exactly know what position he's playing, sorta' like a midfielder after their team gets red carded

I can see him improving a bit but he'll never be a 20m+ player again.

Nah. Pato is more what happens when a) you have a club that doesn't know how to develop young players, and prefers to indulge in the hype machine, than work on his development, and b) a young player who w/o much guidance, realized he prefered the lifestyle over the actual work.


Pato was a good investment in 2007. There's no such thing that can guarantee that a 17 y/o will continue to be great or will get to his best at that age and won't do anything relevant anymore (there is no guarantee of that for any transfer). You gamble with young players like him. The gamble can be very worth while, and even when things weren't looking good for Pato in 2012 we could have gotten that investment back. However, if you want to invest on youth, you have to be patient, be smart, not expose them too much to an unnecessary hype machine, but w/o shielding them from the spotlight. Make them take responsibility for their actions, make them realize they're still nothing in the world of football and if they want to be next Shevchenko or Ronaldo, they have to actually perform.

Developing youth involves a plan. That is why Milan is not the the team for a youth project. Pato arrived the very same year when Milan decided to start to fuck off any sort of planning.

He can still score. maybe hes not as fast as before the injuries, but hes no sluch either, and the touch, skill and finishing is still there. he'd be a good fit for Tottenham, even for Man United instead of Chicharito

Pato's got nice senses but he needs to keep his head in the game. The move to Brazil pulled him back into reality, I just hope he can keep working just as hard after a return to Europe.

It'd be a shame to see a player like him go to waste, he legitimately had top3 in the world talent
