you want balance ... but what about seedorf and pirlo starting every game oh well Berlusconi blessed you with an extra ronaldinho.

i thought i made it abundantly clear. As much as i love both clarence and pirlo. After 2007 or so, it should have been obvious the duo should NOT start together....

they both always played better when other was out in post 2008 period, because of that.

It hurts me to say that, but it wouldn't have been hard to rotate them.

-

That's why i love allegri. He had the balls to make the tough decision.

And before anyone says he made the wrong decision... he did choose pirlo over clarence, but then pirlo got hurt, and clarence seized the opportunity, and allegri did what any good coach would do. Not mess w/ a working thing.

every coach and teammate applauds pirlo's work rate.

that's good enough for me.

-

news flash- the way you work, is different depending on position. Hell even static, Zlatan I'd say worked his ass off.... he was physically fighting. He just didn't move as much as he should off ball. Always came back to ball. Essentially a wannabe pirlo

Ibrahimovic's work rate is much higher than Pirlo's. And applauding something doesn't necessary mean that it's true. Often enough someone is applaud for something with the other just being a suck up or whatevs.

All I know is that pirlo dominate against england in the euros. Definitely had more of an effect on the game than ibra did for sweden. What can we conclude from this?

i'll work on digging up carlo, lippi quotes on him. Give it a little bit.

@second part.... don't confuse defensive workrate and ability. Pirlo is a good tackler. Pirlo is slow as fuck and exposed in space. Two differences.

you rarely see him in a 50/50 challenge lose the ball. Even in milan this was always true. Problem was in space, he can't actually catch the man running with ball. That's reality. And that was a huge milan problem. I've always known we have to compensate pirlo with more athletic players. It's just from point where clarence physically declined and wasn't able to play cm, we were never able to.

That's reality... it doesn't excuse pirlo, or unexcuse him. You just have to look at the reality of these situations and build a balanced team. That's a reason it bugs me people say boateng only lives on physical tools. So what? He has them, and they help him do things others could only dream of. It doesn't make him less of a footballer. And that's why pirlo is better w/ juve now. He has an extremely athletic but technically competent midfield.

-

I just don't really buy the milan v. juve/italy arguments. In the latter two teams, they were cleverly constructed teams RIGHT around his ability. In milan, after 2006, we wasted him. We always had static, slow players infront of him. Essentially, instead of letting him do what he does, which is construct and lay the forward ball (which he used to do so often to kaka/sheva on the run) it went to seedorf who as much as i love, always frustrated me at CAM because he'd dwell and slow down the ball, it went to Ronaldinho who did similar etc. etc.

I wish i had video clips to prove it, but how often he'd move ball quickly up to ronaldinho on left or seedorf in middle and it'd stop. As opposed to sheva/kaka when he'd hit sheva on run for a goal or kaka on run and get the hockey assist.

-

Not to always compare to Xavi, cause even I'll admit, at this point, what xavi's done last 4 years puts him in a league of his own..... but even compare to xavi. 2009 xavi got over 20 assists because he had messi, henry wide, etoo CF, and he'd be able to hit them constantly on a much more direct approach and score.

2011/12 xavi had less assists than piro, despite fact barca scored double the goals. Why? Cause they completely changed the system and it was essentially messi-ball, or messi doing a better version of what zlatan does. Which is fine, but you just lose the decisiveness from CM. And it wasn't like xavi was poor, it's just those passes he used to make to etoo or someone. They stopped and it went to messi and a much more indirect appraoch

All valid points I agree but the main problem I've had with him is that he's gotten FAR too much credit for FAR too little

First of all such a limited and specialized player (by your own admission) should not be even mentioned as a contender for WOPY in my opinion....
For instance, Pirlo was always considered a pass and free kick maestro...... Even though in his latter years here he went as much as > 2 years without scoring one. You just don't deserve that much credit as the main fk taker if you haven't scored them in ages.

Secondly even though you are right in noting that the TEAM was poorly constructed to utilize his skillset, that doesn't absolve him from not getting his part done. You seem to think or imply that he did his part but the other 10 n00bs didn't....but I remember many many many overhit or misplaced passes from a supposed pass maestro.

Granted Ronaldinho, Dorf and co. could have been [Madtherchot]Moving their asses[/Madtherchot] ....but if he was as good as his admirers assert, he'd be finding the guys where they were and not where they are supposed to be.

Your unwillingness to at least partially blame his SIGNIFICANT dip in form from the 2003-2007 player is puzzling in view of his own comments to that effect. Nevertheless the post 2007 Pirlo would lazily step up to take the set piece... not even running up much and generally make a hash out of it. The Milan ('03-'06), Juve and Italy guy would focus, aim and put as much power/effort into them as he could. I dunno maybe I'm seeing things but his not scoring in over a 2 YEARS kinda proves my point. The passing and orchestrating difficulties I can understand but I don't see it affecting his kicking ability.

From what ive seen Mavuba is exactly the type of player you described as anchor, he is a little guy but he is tough, reminds me a little bit of Makelele, he gets involved and goes to tackle, he is quick and covers a lot of ground, and does a lot of the simple stuff, he is a leader.

I also love Nainggolan, we need a player like that, or Vidal and Juve will keep shoving us around the pitch, we need someone fiesty to compensate at least a little bit of what Gattuso used to give us. I think if we must sign some, I would want him.

I agree with you on De Jong, I like what he is doing, he is a good player, but I was just pointing out that he is not special in doing one thing in particular but he is pretty solid in doing many things.

I am not sure about Valoti and Cristante yet, they both seem good, I liked Cristante more he was more involved in those pre season matches, but they both need more experience, I was hoping we would loan them out to a SerieB team.

@de jong

We must consider he came from epl where just the flow of game is wildly different. I think he can do what we need but he has to get adjusted to serie a game. Its just a different style.

gayest pic eva. I mean, just look at him? Staying home with mama? Need further proof?
that italy have much better players than sweden?

That Milan had a better squad last season than juve?

Fact of the matter is that pirlo had such a great influence in the game against england, that whenever they got the ball, they looked for pirlo and passed it to him. Anyone with an ounce of football knowledge could see that. Opposition teams could see that as well, yet only Spain, who played with 8 quality CMs were able to overrun the fairy...

Zlatan's Euros were mostly about that fantastic volley against france, and thats it.

With pirlo, italy go from being knocked out in the group stages to being finalists. Maybe now people will realize who was the most important player in Italy's 06 wc victory.

Such a crucial player for them ... and further proof that a team built around a player like pirlo> a team built around a player like zlatan.

And thats not because pirlo is the better individual player... Its because cms have more influence in a game and hence one could say are more important. It also emphasises that football is a Team sport ...

Pity we didn't see zlatan following the instructions set by the maestro.

No, but if you pluck your eyebrows, dive like a pussy, and whine like a bitch to refs, you are.

Chavi without barca midgets is an unknown quantity. Thats the only reason why Spain's midfield is the best. They play at club and country levels together. They know each other inside out

Pirlo has moved around in his career and wherever he's been (par Inter they didn't have faith in him), he's been a success. Chavi is too pussy to try a ballsy move like that. Another reason why he's homo.

RIP Totti
Xavi and Pirlo are different IMO

Xavi plays more direct, short passes, plays more in the heart of the midfield and keeps the team ticking over

Pirlo comes back to pick the ball up and distribute, playing long passes and finding gaps

However Xavi > Pirlo

No one controls a game like Xavi, hes better going forward and can defend on his own

He plays in the tightest spaces and can still control a game under immense pressure, you press pirlo into no space and hes limited, still good, but limited

I disagree. Chavi has been playing with much better midfielders throughout his career. Same players day in day out for club and country. Its not Chavi the individual ... but its Bartha/Spain's midfield unit that is great.

Pirlo can do the ticking bit ... ticky takka toe ... but he is also a deadly assist man with his pin point accurate passes. Chavi's long range passing is inferior. Thats why he pushes forwarded a lot, and to do that, you need to have a dynamic midfield setup where everyone is moving off the ball making options to the one in possession.

Why was Pirlo not as effective as he is right now during his last years with us? The players and setup you play with determines how good you'll be. Chavi has been part of a big peace that has been successful both for club and country.

Pirlo on the other hand ... well, has forced coaches to build their teams around him, also winning for club and country. Bartha/Spain aren't built on Chavi the way Italy/Milan/Juve were built around Pirlo.

Pirlo must've been reading this thread. Showing his freekicks aren't half that bad. One goal and one cross bar.

But Siena is gonna tie the game in the second half, you just watch. Calaio just needs to wake the f*ck up.

no use of a better squad when we had the worst injury crisis in sports history :o and jube had no injuries + no european fixtures.

although, allegri + his players did choke against viola/bologna/inter.

your whole argument is weak tbh, Milan would have easily won the league if they didn't have half of those injuries.

I just stated a fact, I'm not cheering.

What's up with the easy name calling btw? Pirlo scores a goal, I mention it. Does that make me a 'closet jube phan' as you so eloquently put it? No, ofcourse not. But if it makes you feel any better, be my guest, little friend.

And to answer the whole of your idiotic post, it's difficult for Pirlo to score for us when he's not playing here anymore, don't you think. 3 years not scoring? Stop talking nonsense, I remember a beauty against Parma in his last season here. You'll probably remember it if you think really hard, so I'm not gonna bother posting the link here.

Who are they playing next? Armenia and Denmark? Nah, Pirlo is not even needed :D He can rest for all I care, play Verratti.

Since 2007 Pirlo has not been scoring them which anything resembling consistency.

The 2010 goal vs Parma was not a free kick. It was a shot on goal in the 25th minute.
2009 his ONE goal in 39 appearances was in the CL vs Madrid was also another shot from distance after been given acres of space.
in 2008 he scored one league goal (penalty vs Siena) and one penalty vs Werder Bremen

In conclusion, 2008-2011 ZERO (0) free kicks of 'Il Maestro....yet he still was viewed as a free kick master during that time by his groupies.

I agree Pirlo at one point was not shooting FKs like he used to, but then again you had Ronaldinho who was equally good at FKs so the number of times Pirlo took them were considerably less. Regardless, Pirlo IS a FK master with great ones being scored for Italy and Juve recently. Master!!

@lil freind: think of all the great fk takers milan has had over the years. Of all of them, pirlo has scored the most. Dinho even failed to beat his record. So yeah... Whether he's scoring them now or not, fact remains he's very capable of being a deadly freekick specialist.

@sage: I have a weak argument? Lol ... Please have some self respect. Worst injury crisis yet king zlatan stayed fit for most of the season. Juve didn't lose a single game all season. Its alright to accept defeat. Team based in pirlo beat the team based on zlatan.

And if that wasn't enough, pirlo once again rose to the occasion at the euros while zlatan was outclassed by sheva :proud:

Chavi? Didn't win the league or ucl with bartha. Wasn't even consistent at the euros. But he won... Why? Because he was only a small of an effective unit. I think spain will cope just fine in his absence because the unit is there. Living corpse iniesta would be more missed.

take pirlo out of italy though, and you know what will happen...

@ashish: and what does that make ronnietta? Barca-madrid, milan-inter ... :fp:

It takes balls to leave a stable and comfortable setup, move to a new project, and succeed there as well. Chavi is too pussy to do something like that. I mean the cunt can't even leave mummy's home :fp:
