the most important factor when playing teams like bate is the mentality of the team, not the starting XI.

we have 6 games left in the next 3 weeks, playing our strongest XI against bate would be idiotic considering we can afford to rest some players, bate are not a strong team, but we shouldn't underestimate them and thats why the mentality towards this game is the most important factor.

Play our strongest team to ensure we win this game.

If we qualify top we should get an easier team in the last 16. We need to win all the games in this group apart from the home game against Barca which if we draw 1-1 or 0-0we will go through 1st.

agree.
playing draw with barca in camp nou was very difficult thing to do.
we shouldn't waste it by getting a draw or lost to other teams in this group.

We need to win this game. I tell you one thing for sure, the return game against the Chek team Viktor Pelzen wouldn't be easy.

Having said that just win this game.

And yes, if we manage a 1-1 draw at home against Barcelona, that will lead us to the first place in the group.

Better we´ll beat Barca back on the ground and stay on top :o

Previous meetings
• Milan were 6-0 aggregate winners when the clubs met in the 2001/02 UEFA Cup first round. Andriy Shevchenko and Javi Moreno earned the Rossoneri a 2-0 first-leg win in Belarus and they prevailed 4-0 back in Italy courtesy of Rui Costa, Moreno, Mohamed Sarr and a Filippo Inzaghi penalty.

• Christian Abbiati and Gennaro Gattuso played in the first leg for Milan while Viktor Goncharenko, now BATE coach, appeared at San Siro alongside Aleksandr Fedorovich and Aleksei Baga – his assistant coaches today – and Artyom Kontsevoi.

Match background
• Massimiliano Allegri's hosts will hope their defeat of Plzeň marks the start of an improved run of home form in the UEFA Champions League. In the previous two seasons they had won just one of eight fixtures at San Siro, losing four of them.

• BATE are unbeaten in their four European away games this term, recording a win and three draws – including a 1-1 stalemate at Plzeň on matchday one.

• BATE might also take heart from their two draws against Juventus on their UEFA Champions League group stage debut in 2008/09 – 2-2 in Minsk and 0-0 in Turin. Of the present BATE squad, Dmitri Likhtarovich, Vitali Rodionov, Aleksandr Yurevich and substitute Aleksandr Volodko all played in that first UEFA Champions League visit to Italy in December 2008.

• The Borisov club's only other game on Italian soil was a UEFA Intertoto Cup third round encounter with Bologna FC in 2002. They lost 2-0 and that proved the eventual aggregate score of a tie in which Goncharenko was an unused substitute for both legs.

Team ties
• Mark van Bommel and Mateja Kežman were colleagues at PSV Eindhoven from 2000 to 2004, winning Dutch titles together in 2001 and 2003.

• The much-travelled Kežman has scored three goals in seven matches against Italian opposition in UEFA's club competitions. After drawing two blanks when his FK Partizan side lost to S.S. Lazio in the 1998/99 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup second round, he scored against the same opposition for PSV in a 2-1 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico in the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League first group stage.

• The Serbian also struck twice when PSV overcame AC Perugia in the 2003/04 UEFA Cup third round. He later lined up against Zlatan Ibrahimović when his Fenerbahçe SK team beat FC Internazionale Milano 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2007/08.

nah i think we should play our strongest team barring maybe van bommel if ambrosini is fit. As far as i see it , Lecce game is more important for us but i have confidence that our second stringers and senatore squad can handle it so its probably better to rest someone like nesta, cassano or silva in that game. Mexes and Yepes would also be fit by then and maybe even Pato and Gattuso so we have more options for Lecce game.
Bate on the other hand have a much higher chance of upsetting us than Lecce so we should give them the respect they deserve like any other european team and play full strength.
Best case scenario would be if we take a strong lead by half time then we can close up shop, sub the tired players and just pass around and finish the game off.

we should field our strongest lineup. now is the time to build a run of form and gel, we should change things up too much. better to get an early lead and then sub players off, same vs lecce. winning the cl group could make the whole differencein our cl campaign, we can't afford to throw it away.

Milan-BATE Borisov Preview: Start Your Engines
Posted by Elaine | MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2011
It’s not so hard to write about Serie A, I watch so many games I’m surprised my husband hasn’t left me yet. But in the Champions League, we meet teams that even the interwebs seem to know little about. However, that is not the case with BATE Borisov. I actually was able to learn quite a bit online about them. Enough to know there is one word you should know about them: Tractors.

That article is ironic because Milan play more like tractors.

... Not including the last match ...

Don't rush Seedorf back for this match. And we need to bring Mexes slowly. I love Cassano to death, i think he needs a rest since he played every game for us & the Azzuri since pre-season. If needed we can always bring Seedorf & Antonio on as subs.

I demand the same intensity & attitude as last saturday. I loved the pressing, we should be able to do this at home against Bate.

Im not a fan of playing Boateng as a CAM, specially when we are at home and we need to win. Id would play the exact same staring line-up as we had against Palermo

This.

Everything in this post makes total sense and I hope that Allegri have taken notice of this too. Especially the part about Cassano, he needs some rest...

i know that the uefa site has us on top but rules seem to be different i.e. goal difference seems to be the top priority tie breaker...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011–12_UEFA_Champions_League#Group_stage

1. higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question;
2. superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question;
3. higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question;
4. higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question;
5. If, after applying criteria 1) to 4) to several teams, two teams still have an equal ranking, the criteria 1) to 4) will be reapplied to determine the ranking of these teams;
6. superior goal difference from all group matches played;
7. higher number of goals scored from all group matches played;
8. higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question, as well as its association, over the previous five seasons.

the wiki article links to uefa rules pdf..

http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles.../Regulations/01/63/02/44/1630244_DOWNLOAD.pdf

we need to win our games against the minnows and beat Barca.. no way we will be able to surpass them on goal difference

7.06 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group
matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (in
descending order):
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the
teams in question
;
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams
in question
;
c) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the
teams in question
;
d) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches
played among the teams in question;
e) if, after having applied criteria a) to d), two teams still have an equal
ranking, criteria a) to d) are reapplied to determine the final ranking of the
two teams. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria f) to h)
apply;
f) superior goal difference from all group matches played;
g) higher number of goals scored from all group matches played;
h) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question,
as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see
paragraph 9.02).

http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/Regulations/competitions/Regulations/01/63/02/44/1630244_DOWNLOAD.pdf

Seeing as away goals count higher between two teams that makes us on top. What the difference of goals are vs minnows is secondary in this regard. unless we tie 2-2 at san siro, in that case criteria F, will come into play.

Oh apparently missed entire previous page where it was clarified with the H2H.
Anyways those are the exact words copied out of the UEFA rules. Criteria F will go into effect only if H2H is fully equalized.

binho need to start on the bench, in case one of our attackers get injured, beside allegri really love prince, so if he's fit he will be a starter..

disagreed.

A) Robinho's vital to our attack
b) he doesn't change games off the bench as much. If we're gonna drop one, Cassano is a more obvious choice cause he can come and give full energy for 20-30 mins and turn a game. Robinho's best strength is his ability to move all game

I think Seedorf starts

If we're set on Boateng @ CAM I would like to see-

Robinho--Zlatan
Boateng
Seedorf-----Aquilani
MVB
Taiwo--Nesta--Silva--Abate

I don't think Allegri will dare 3 forwards this game, and Cassano probably could use the rest.

Other option is Ambrosini over MVB if he's fit. Keep MVB fit.

If not, then use Ambrosini on saturday. Maybe Yepes also instead of Nesta.

Taiwo v. Antonini. Maybe it's better to use Antonini since he knows system and let Taiwo go v. Lecce, a lower pressure game. At the moment we have a real shot to win this group, so we can't take too many risks.
