But that's the thing. Was it really our midfield not being able to 'find' him? So many instances where Nocerino, for example, just backed off.

If I was to blame someone it would definitely be Allegri.

Ferguson had Park on his ass. Wenger put Hleb on his ass. Those were tactical decisions made by the managers. It seemed like Allegri didn't think it was important for him to be marked.

What a difference Gattuso would have made that night  Maybe even Flamini.

I'd say it's 50/50....

I refuse to believe Allegri's so dumb as to 'neglect' pirlo or the concept, as it's worked. So I do think players take responsbility. He used a zonal scheme in midfield, and only Clarence got the idea of pressing up on Pirlo. Boateng didn't. I'll excuse him 'a little' since he wasnt fit. Though how fit does he need to be to press pirlo? Nocerino, has no excuse.

That said, his midfielders are clearly too dumb for the system. Pirlo outsmarted them all except Clarence, and even with Clarence he did in 1 v 1s.

BUT the one edge Man Utd and Arsenal have that allegri doesn,t is an incredibly energetic midfield (and squad as a whole) capable of leaving 1 man as a man marker and still covering rest of field. Milan doesn't have this.

I was actually discussing the lack of Gattuso being sad with C4M I believe. I was thoroughly curious who would get the better of who, considering they both know each other so well. I believe Gattuso would have made his life hell, but at same time, Pirlo knows his tendencies too, so he could have gotten 1 or 2 by him and picked his pocket.

The only one he was consistently gliding past and making a fool out of was Grande Seedorf :proud:
I thought you had enough time to look at the feint (or missed shot) to see what mvb was doing exactly ...
Exactly, and Ganso for all his shortcomings like speed and workrate is possibly the most creative player in the world, including Ronaldinho. He is more cerebral than Dinho who is more focused on the flashy stuff. As much as Dinho can be a wonderful passer, Ganso is more of a team player.
Then sign me up on the Ganso bandwagon, if you're right about him. Haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement on him.

I think Allegri meant for us to dominate in midfield, controlling the game in the process. Unfortunately, the player whose job description was to do this for Milan for the past 10 years was playing against us while van boss is incapable of doing so at the highest levels, of which Juve and Pirlo are not.

Ps. Ole Clarence has been our best midfielder this season so far. I thank him for that.

Is Catania's midfield THAT much better than ours? They managed to outsmart him.

That's ONE incident.

Why pick on Van Bommel? Is he the designated possession man of Milan? Of course he isn't. It's Seedorf.

And I believe we dominated quite a few games last season without a certain player who wasn't motivated enough to play for Milan.

Our WHOLE midfield screwed up. Juve's didn't. That was the difference.

I know what you're saying, but we are a static team, ganso wouldn't be static at LCM, pirlo barely moves, so having a static player orchestrate a static team was always going to be a disaster.

I don't appreciate players like pirlo, 1 good quality and a list of bad ones.

I mean, what?! How you can utter those words and still be a Milan fan (and a member of this forum) is beyond me. Not liking Pirlo should be a punishable crime..

A better combo of intelligence and athleticism actually.

I did watch that game (as well as ours)- Jube played a lot quicker v. milan.

Probably part of it was new stadium atmosphere hyping them. A lot of it's how slow and unathletic Milan were :(

I also noticed elia + krasic was a big issue v. having Pepe play who works as hard as marcisio/vidal in pressing phase. I guess this is why Conte prefers Giaccherini/Pepe over Krasic when they played 4-4-2. If he's got 2 strikers, and just Pirlo + marcisio in CM, he knows he needs to get extensive workrate out of his wings both ways. Something Krasic hasn't learned yet.

Point is Jube has milan on our backlegs all game which was what i found most disgraceful. You'd think they were defending champs and we were midtable.

What's sad is Conte pwn'd Milan the same way Hleb/Flams/Park (players you mentioned) pwn'd milan with pirlo in the past.

Ganso a classic old school play-maker would not fit in Allegri system especially when his style is incompatible with Ibra and Allegri squad is built around Ibra.

Yeah than Allegri must leave, and may he take Ibra with him.

We want the old milan back, the one with a midfield based on 3 playmakers.

He built the squad around ibra cause he has ibra. His cagliari squad was built around midfield

What are you going to do, build the squad around boateng's playmaking skills?

He can only build around what he has.

Yeah man I know that Allegri is doing as well as possible with the players he got. Even if I think that Allegri is a good coach, he is not as good as Ancelotti for example.

If I could change any thing, I would kick Berlusconi and let someone who is really ready to invest money into the club take the lead.

Then I give Allegri all the players he wants, and see if he realises some results, if he don't I replace him with a better coach.

I noticed a lot of ppl saying that VanB would make Pirlo his toy.
And now you both are mentioning players that play far for Pirlo's operations which is deeper.
Wet gave an example of Park & Hleb & I agree on this.
The one who should shut down Pirlo shouldbt be a VanB or Gatu but rather an attacking one.
For me it should have been Ibra , Cass or KPB.
Care you both to explain how do you expect our DM to mark their Pirlo when he is far from them ?

Personally I think Boateng should have been the man, cause he's lined up RIGHT on Pirlo.

But Gattuso, has played a bit higher up the pitch in allegri's tactic. I thought last year second half when MVB came that was a big reason we were successful. MVB in anchor role, cleaning up the mess. Gattuso pressing up the pitch to win the ball around midway line. He didn't have to drop deep like when Pirlo was anchor cause MVB doesn't need protection.

Nocerino tried a little but was unsuccessful. It's not surprising Clarence got to pirlo but had no success with it, but Clarence's defensive role is same as Gattuso's on other side of pitch.

Besides- you know it as well as I, each match thread is filled with 100 posts of 'why is gattuso/flamini/nocerino up there' missing the shot. Cause the side CM is always pushing up on the ball.

I love Ancelotti, but I don't recall ancelotti ever having such a technically devoid midfield.

Coaches play what's dealt to him.

I'm bigger Al didn't play Aquilani but otherwise... it's not like he's benching rui/pirlo/serginho and starting a midfield of ambrosini, clarence, gattuso, brocchi

But I agree.... this has been a pet peeve of milan for years with Milan. Coach/management not in sync. In 2008 Carlo wanted Adebayor or Etoo, he was given Ronaldinho for ex.

Alegri lays on Seedorf cos he is the only creative force in the team.
Milan lacks of creativity, and that's for me the major concern.
As a team without pure AM who can replace the DM role for creativity for now, we are the ones who will suffer from fast playing midfield as was Juve.
For now Alegri must consider that Seedorf is the only choice and keep him on the bench rested for big games and derbies cos we are screwed otherwise. I repeat: Best example was Jube and he must take that very serious.
Season is long and for me the only key in the important matches for now is Seedorf-Robinho relation.

As for Anceloti...dont forget that he was having Pirlo (25yrs) and KAKA (22yrs).
I dont see a coach that has that except PEP similar as (Iniesta-Xavi and MESSI).
I dont want to be in Alegris place right now!!!

Another thing also Milan must know and we all that replcing Pirlo`s position for now is impossible.
WE dont have that kind of player, nearly smart as him and not even talking about capable as him!!

Dud, Allegri could have used Aquilani or El Sharawy instead of Seedorf. This is Milan not Cesena (sorry Cesena fanatics). If you see last few games you can see that every play has to pass for Seedorf even though he is not playing as trequartista. Specially when Seedorf passes to Cassano and Cassano passes back to Seedorf, that take for ages.

What Sam said. Players like Gattuso and Flamini tend to play higher up. Especially Flamini. I mean most of Pirlo's battles were with Seedorf. That was the position Flamini, for example, would have been playing if fit.

A little with Gattuso. A lot with Flamini. I haven't seen it much (or at all) with Nocerino. Which is rather disappointing.

I think KPB or any other attacking midfielder & even a disciplined forward are better suited to press Pirlo.
I would rather have all three CMs focused on the more advanced Juve midfielder.
Pirlo taking the ball from the defense will mean losing a CM & if you add a 0 defense from KPB , Cass & IBra then you will have four of our players in their quarter which is a lot for my liking.

Gullit: 'Seedorf is my heir and would be a great manager "

In connection to Monaco, where he is holding the awards ceremony of the Golden Foot, the envoy of Italy Francesco Mirror Sport revealed the words exchanged with the AC Milan legend Ruud Gullit. The Black Tulip is proud of the performance by Clarence Seedorf unlined with "his" number 10 shirt, and believes his fellow countryman could become an important resource for executives in Via Turati once the player's career.

He deserves it for sure and he is wanted in Via Turati for sure.

Normally, you need to control the midfield if you want to get a result. Otherwise, you need to be extremely tight at the back and clinical on the break.

We play in Serie A to control the game. Something we didn't do against Bartha to good effect. Still any kind of controlled possession we bring through the midfield is passing through Clarence. Without him, we will be completely devoid of constructive play.

I thought we were supposed to overrun Juve's light midfield with our bosses and whatnot. Players who were supposedly water tight at the back but capable of something resembling controlled possession.

The opposition know that all they need to do is put Clarence under pressure in order to handicap Milan by some distance. You want him to be our main creative force + put pressure on Juve's? What the heck are our other midfielders supposed to do now?

Sometimes Clarence seems to have to do all the work in our midfield. Beside Boss, he is the most hard-working midfielder in our team considering his age. Yes, flame me if you want but that is the truth. The rest of the midfield is not "there" yet despite the fact their potential is great. Hard work is what Clarence has been teaching here, very few seem to have got it.

Not missed at all. So he is going to replace Nocerino or Aqua who are both far more consistent?

No Berlu, do not start him.
