Acutally Pastore is doing what we thought Ganso was going to do - roam around taking his touches and opening up the game

put a midfield with 4 four guys.. 2 on him.. than u can say that. but he is not a bad player.. just not trustworth.

I will say this, Messi can hold his head up high.

This is bet I've ever seen him play for argentina. Against a tough, physical opponnent he asserted himself and showed leadership. Part unlucky with finishing, and part great defending/keeping.

Okay, that was fucking special. This is how real men play football.

Props to Capitao Lugano. Kudos to Senatore as well, Suarez is huge. Congratulations to hdcantona I guess. Ash you share my thoughts, I have no clue why would any team want to sell a GK like that.

Might as well cancel the rest of the tournament. Just give Uruguay the cup. Today both teams gave us everything that we have nothing to look forward to anymore.

Congrats Uruguay! Seriously my 2nd fav. NT after Italy. They make anyone else look like pussies. That's what Capitao was talking about all the time. This is the whole concept of balls. That's how real men play football.

Great post

This game is so Uruguay btw. Facing the hosts, all the support against them, one man down... It's exactly in those unlikely situations that they excel, play beyond their possibilities and bring force who knows from where.

I understand that it's hard for you, but try to be unbiased, buddy. Pastore was one of the few Argentinian players who played well in this match.

Could somebody tell me what is Gago doing on Real's bench? He's not world class on the level of Alonso or Fabregas, but he looks to me as the perfect center midfielder. He kinds of reminds me a lot of De Rossi. As Jonathon Wilson put it perfectly "Gago has become a five, but he began life as a 10, and so offers a link between the two roles".

Also there's a lot to criticize Argentina and Batista for, but I just want to give full credit to Uruguay, because they deserve it.

First time I respect Messi is today. He showed character and played really well at times. But I still hate his guts. :D

God Uruguay is just SO badass.

I don't see how a neutral cannot like them. They all look like real men, real footballers

For a South American like me it's very obvious. Uruguayan football has so much feelling around and the players are so passionate, it's incredible.

But a lot of the football fans around the World can't see a game that way. TBH much of them don't perceive the football beyond dives and tricks. There's the divers and the skilled ones. Then you complain about the cheaters and jizzz about the dribblings. Morals and aesthetical fun. That's football.

100% agreed. For me the passion is amazing.

It's probably why I always had a soft spot for italy's NT (well really it's maldini and co.). Not anymore so much, but in past. It's why teams like England are pretty hard to get behind because there players look like it's 'a chore' to represent their country

It's why you love players like gattuso

Gago's playing well again. He would REALLY suit serie A btw

I'm thinking the same. FU Galliani get Gago.

I will say this, Messi can hold his head up high.

Just shows the most important attribute to an athlete is not pace, strength, skill. Its heart

How Argentina reacted to the red card of Pérez really cost them the game. No idea how to control a game, to kill the game. Batista is badly to blame but at least this defeat probably means the end of him.

I thought Messi+Gago played well again. A shame Gago was injured later. Messi showed leadership today, a brave performance.

Higuaín tried hard, good movement.

Mascherano's red card seemed very harsh.

di María hopeless, the most frustrating player of the world.

Tévez trying to be playermaker was hilarious but I have to feel sorry for him, anyone can miss a penalty, stupid to blame a player for that.

The defence is really shit so there's no point complaining about them after 4 games. Zanetti is a god for his effort though.

Romero also has been good for Argentina, I was worried about him before the tournament started.

Anyway, Argentina have some great young players. I hope they have a new defense and serious manager in 2014.

Suárez is such a good player, but his attitude is a worry. Some of his behavior in this game was pretty much a disgrace but that could change under the right manager. He has so much ability.

Massive credit to Uruguay. The real team playing won. I think Argentina wanted it just as much but Uruguay have a plan, they play together. Well done to them!

Batista's face when the referee blew the whistle for penalties showed that he knew it wasnt going to be his night...

Probably thought that it wouldnt get to penalties, what with his aweseome striker lineup and all. Probably realised he should have practised them

Gago is good and he would be a decent buy for Milan, but the dude is literally made of glass....

We already are well stocked in glass men to be honest....

Great game. Totally worth staying up all night long for.

Props to both Uruguay and Argies for putting up a great show. Just a shame that we only got 4 Argentina games and only two decent ones.

BTW, Yepes should have been Uruguaiyinaanin(tired). Imagine a team with both Yepes and Lugano. o_O

Edit: Forgot to mention the Uruguay penalties. They were some of the best I've ever seen. Near PERFECT placement plus power.

I wonder what you see in Ganso that the rest don't see.

Agree with most of your points. But this, seriously? You support Barcelona, right?

I never said that he is a bad player.. is a good player.

But think about it..
Uruguay 1 man down.. Uruguay tired, Uruguay giving a lot of space.. the attention was only for Messi.. Everything perfect to Pastore shine.

Trying shoots from long distance.. Zabaleta tried too.

You're kidding right? His attitude is what makes him a Top 5 striker.

Yes, I support Barcelona. What annoyed me about Suárez more than anything was his petulance(?). Suárez goes down easily like a lot of players, but his sarcastic applause to the referee after diving, asking for every player to get a card, waving his arms at his teammates all night, it's bad. Especially when he is playing for his country.

I'm sorry I would take you seriously if Barcelona players didn't perfect the art of diving and surrounding the ref to ask for cards.

Disgusting club with disgusting players and the most disgusting attitude. On the pitch and off it. On the pitch you have divers like Busquetes, Iniesta, Puyol, Pedro, Alves, and the rest of course. Even Mascherano and Villa instantly became pathetic divers once they joined that shit club. Every team has its divers but with Barcelona it is a philosophy. Player X dives then his team-mates surround the ref to ask for a card. Pathetic. Then after the match if things don't go their way, they blast the ref, the opponents for not playing football the "right" way, and turn on the sprinklers. If they win it's a victory for football and let's hold the Catalan flag. But when Spain win the World Cup suddenly they're Spanish, despite having a revolution(?) a day before the World Cup for the independence of Catalunya.

That's just on the pitch. Because off it, their attitude is not much better either. The "Més que un club" bullshit and the "only club to never wear ads on their shirt" crap. Trying so hard to feel special that once they wore a sponsor on their shirt it was "Unicef" so that it's for a "good reason". All the hypocritical cuntish saga surrounding Cesc led by faithful Catalan cunts Puyol and Xavi, who the fuck gave them the right to speak for Cesc? "He wants to join", "Arsenal shouldn't let him stay against his will" and Alves with his "Arsenal are not on our level and it is normal for him to want to join Barcelona to win everything". I mean seriously what the fuck is that about? Even the mayor joined in the Cescfest by declaring he is "kidnapped". My god I have never seen more pathetic bunch. Has their ever been any obvious case of tapping up? But that's not even the problem, the problem is that they're proud of it all. They even go as far as asking players to hand a transfer request to lower the fee and "ease" the transfer process. Seriously, who the fuck do they think they are?

I could go on for days, so to make a long story short: If you support Barcelona then don't come talking to me about attitude. Ever.

I don't see this as a big deal.

The guy is on a very intense game, his adrenaline is sky levels, he got hitted quite a lot during the game, a very nervous and intense game... Of course he will start to complain. In part he was trying to get refree decisions on his side, but part is the heat of the game. Not every players is cool headed and want to look classy. But he didn't hurt no one, it's just whinning, the refree's are strong enough to deal with it.

He going down easily was very useful for Uruguay. It slowed the game, it resulted in dangerous set pieces and on Mascherano red card.
