I don't know why you disagree, I thought he played good.... I was most disappointed by Montolivo. First performance by him after he has officially been a Milan player (it must be said though that he was played out of position). I hope Prandelli decides to play a friendly game in the next 3 days, we badly need one before the Spain game in a week from now.

Benched in Italy and based of his performance vs Russia it is totally understandable.

As soon as he joins Milan, he loses his starting spot in the NT. Anyway he'll be a good alternative to Motta and Marchisio.

Sucks that Nocerino had a cameo yesterday and not him.

tbf, the game was much more suited for an energetic, hard-working runner like Nocerino at that point.

i'm sure he'll feature at some point against either Croatia or Ireland or even both.

Did Nocerino even have time to touch the ball? It was a useless substitution, just sucks that Nocerino got the nod over Montolivo.

It bugs me that Nocerino is even in the squad. I respect his hard work and all, but really he's just a class or two below the highest level.

would Monty have gotten a touch had he come one? Spain were dominating at that time and Italy's best option was to go defensive and play for the draw.

what Prandelli needed at that time was fresh legs from the bench to chase down and hound the increasingly attacking Spanish midfielders. Noce is obviously a better option for this compared to Monty.

he got selected for the same reason that you said - hard work. sometimes, talent alone is not enough to win. you need hard-working, team players to support you as well.

for me, Italy has a nice mix of ball winners (Motta), playmakers (Pirlo and Monty), runners (Noce and Marchioso) and a complete player in De Rossi that can do all three.

Nocerino is the Pippo Inzaghi of midfielders. Pathetic technique + incredible hardwork and determination. Only difference is that Pippo has intelligent positioning that gives him the edge as a striker. What does Nocerino have? I really don't see his qualities. 10 goals hurray, but... he's a midfielder FFS. Can he win back the ball? No. Can he get the ball forward? No. What can he do? Just run around.

It's more like this IMO: Pirlo and Motta (playmakers), Montolivo and Marchisio (intelligent box-to-box), De Rossi (both), and Nocerino (hopeless runner).

pretty much.

tho you can make a case for him being a decent finisher and having a good instinct for goal.

don't think he can play to his full potential with Pirlo next to him taking over all playmaking duties. he was limited to being just another ball-winner and tried to find Pirlo always.

still, decent cameo and had the balls to take a nice shot.

Flawless in defence. The ballwinner of the match so far.
Some great passes and moves in offence as well.
Only some easy misstakes lower his grade.
Good first half from Monty!
