I have been thinking of something. So people think Maldini did a horrible job right? If i'm not wrong he took the director role for around 4 years.
During that time he signed Theo/Rafa/Maignan/Tomori/IBRA/Kjaer/Giroud/Benn/Tonali ect ect and got a top scout like Moncada and massive investments in youth sector .
We won a Serie A and got CL Semis. Went from a hopeless squad who punched above our weight to having a decent spine of players.
I don't see any signing of the level Maldini got yet (Theo and Maignan are actually world class, Rafa and Tomori on the cusp ect).
Our best signing so far is Tij which is around Bennacer level, next best is Pulisic which is performing similar to prime Milan Rebic, the rest haven't made a difference yet.
It bothers me because whats going on is being built on the shoulders of what Maldini actually did and I see posters regularly disrespecting him.
Do they even remember BANTER ERA?
Sacking him was a mistake, his biggest flop wont even cause a loss in the books (CDK) and was he even a flop 1 season is too little to judge a player, Kessie was trash for two seasons?
What he did wrong was not selling Calha and Donna before (We needed Kessie for scudetto so that was ok) but he did show Milan is bigger than players and put his balls on their forehead. The rest is a respectable amount of flops considering our budget.
