But what did we expect? Last summer was our biggest spending in 3-4 years and it was after we cashed out on one of our players finally, but even after that we find ourselves with multiple significant holes in the squad. Its not where you finish - its how you finish
- You know this was positivity's calling card - stats, ppg etc
All the while we are getting humiliated in important games
And regarding Pioli, he’s shown his limitations awhile back. None of these issues we are showing now are issues that all of a sudden crept up on us like some people would like to make it seem. Just conceding on set pieces alone has been a problem for years. This guy is almost 60 years old and never really had luck before us and people expected him to just keep ascending. “But we look worse”: yea, we lost Ibra and Kjaer is done. The younger “leaders” have been content and just shown complacency in big moments
I think given the fact that we are able to achieve second DESPITE Pioli’s limitation and all the issues mentioned above, and that we are able to integrate and raise the values of many new players, it’s a bit laughable to call the overall results a disaster. Going cheap on almost every single metric (even the players we bought are all around 20ish million or so) could have certainly gone A LOT worse.
