Don't think you read the atmosphere correctly.

It's not whether we have to buy SMS or not - I believe we would get to CL even without him.

But great mezz'ala transfer should have been our top priority since the first day of mercato. I won't criticize F&M anymore, thank god they're gone and they didn't have enough time to operate this summer.

But Leonardo should have been going after a mezz'ala since the day one. Not after Higuain. Not after Caldara. I'm not saying those moves were bad - they're great - but they should have had lower priority than getting a great mezz'ala.

It's like in a role-playing game. You have the main story and other quests to make. Of course you can make those side-quests, you even should accomplish them. But without focusing on the main plot you won't get to the end. And mezz'ala was our main story this mercato.
Without getting a great mezz'ala - Rabiot, SMS, someone unknown, it doesn't matter to me, it has to be a great player - we need a great, big miracle to get into CL. Having even the best striker won't get you anywhere if you don't have a midfield able to pass the ball to him.

That's why I think this mercato will be a failure without a great mezz'ala. I wanted a playmaker and a great winger and what did we get? Castillejo and this Genoa fodder. :fp: And no playmaker at all.
Same happened to Manchester United this winter - they had several great wingers and a weak defence. What did Mourinho do? He bought Sanchez and failed to buy a great defenders. That's why it's said he failed then and that's why I think Leonardo will fail if he won't buy a classy mezz'ala today or tomorrow. It's make it or break it scenario, it's black or white now.

A great striker was absolutely important - at least on par with a mezz'ala. I'll never criticize Leo for that master move.

We all talk about Juve, Inter, Napoli, Milan, Roma, Lazio but I wouldn't count out teams like Fiorentina or Atalanta causing problems for that 4th spot as well.

I really doubt that. Fiorentina and Atalanta lost most of their best players the past 2 seasons, no?

Sorry but Inter & Roma have better forward lines as things stand. Signing a top winger would even things out.

Milan: Suso, Hakan, Higuain, Cutrone, Samu, Haililovic  Borini :fp:
Inter: Icardi, Martinez, Candreva, Perisic, Politano, Keita, Karamoh
Roma: Perotti, Dzeko, Schick, Pastore, Under, Kluivert, SES
They've perhaps got better depth in those areas, but in terms of starting quality I rate Higuain higher than Dzeko and equal with Icardi. Hakan better than all of their LWs and Suso is better than most mentioned. Candreva is almost as useless as Borini... shouldn't even be in the conversation . Pastore is a midfielder.

Anything can happen in football.. if we only win all of our games vs the midtable and relegation sides , do ok vs the top 5 teams we ll be alright ..

even if miss on SMS this summer we can always add someone like Rafinha during winter mercato , same as Merda did

Icardi is almost as "one trick pony" as Suso. The dude can't dribble, he can't pass worth shit. He's like an older more developed version of Cutrone (I hope Cutrone can work on his weaknesses but he's horrible on the ball right now).

Higuain is a complete striker. Against Madrid even he was spraying the ball all over the place, with great passes. Holds up play like a king. And can shoot from further than 7m away from the goal, unlike Icardi.

Icardi is better in the air though, for sure. I'll give him that.

Considering Leo's past preference for 4-2-fantasia, the slim option in mid along with these two new wingers, I think Leo is pushing 4-2-3-1 on Gattuso.

Also considering our only strikers now are Higuain-Cutrone-Borini, this means no 4-3-1-2.

Higuain (Cutrone)

Laxalt (Bona) - Hakan - Suso (Samu)

Biglia - Kessie (Cakayoko)

RR- Caldara - Romagnoli - Conti

:star::star::star:

This might even turn into 3-4-2-1 with RR being the third CB, Laxalt and Conti the wide midfielders.

This kind of tactical switch was used by Allegri in Juventus 16-17 (Barzagli being the RB that could turn into the third CB)
