Jose Maria GUTI

Troublemaker, badass, wears the #14, master of the impossible passes, scorer of brilliant goals, has the creativity and imagination of a painter, sees space like no one else does, and could practically play in any position. Oh and his hair - wow.

I'm still heartbroken that he didn't finish his career at Real. In fact, had it not been for Florentino's spending and the damn injuries, Guti probably would have had a bigger role to play at Real. When on form he was a guaranteed starter no doubt. Just sucks to see him not feature a lot with Spain when others like Mendieta, Valeron, Joaquin, Vicente and the likes all had their shot.

Santiago SOLARI

What a player. Seriously one of the most gifted players I've ever seen. He could literally do anything with his left foot. His first couple of seasons with Real were pure magic, especially the Champions League winning season with him on the left, Figo on the right, Makelele as an anchor, and Zidane in the hole. Faded quickly and didn't have a shot with Argentina, practically didn't play at Inter.

He's also Redondo's cousin.

Similar to McManaman. Had a great season in 1999-2000, even scored a wonderful goal vs Valencia in the final, then Perez responds by signing Figo.

It's understandable, Figo, Zidane, they're players no one would say no to. But it's just sad to see football transform into such a business. I mean, Guti, McManaman, Solari, they're not Zidane's but they're still quality. Real just wrecked their careers.

One of the very best of Benetiz's signings. And one of the few shining lights in Benitez's first season with Liverpool. Had a great couple of seasons were he was unstoppable. Was a great dribbler, amazing with link up, and knew how to score. Was also a starter for Spain in World Cup 2006. Too bad he faded quicker than he appeared.

Juninho Pernambucano

Comfortable on the ball, technical, great passer, and has hell of a shot. Was very elegant. Probably the best free kick taker of all time. Cristiano Ronaldo stole his technique. Also never had his true chance with Brazil.

Criminally underrated. 2004-2006 he would have made starting line-up of any top European club.

Juninho is back to Brazil to play for Vasco da Gama. He is a club legend, so plays for free. I think he scored some free kicks already... Class guy.

Fernando Morientes, one of my favourite strikers of the early part of last decade.

Guti was Madrid's Seedorf. The similarities are extremely accurate. Insanely good on the ball, very clever, Senatore-like figure in the squad, but at the end of the day, you always feel either could have won more individual honours in their career had they not been inconsistent. Both talented enough to swoop in Ballon d'Or.
