Tuesday March 27 2012 Nocerino: Milan can topple Barcelona

Antonio Nocerino is convinced that Milan can get past Barcelona to progress in the Champions League.

Although restricted by injuries, the midfielder has confidence in the skills of his teammates ahead of Wednesday’s quarter-final first leg tie.

This squad always has the ability to make the difference,” he told the Corriere dello Sport on Tuesday.

When someone is missing, the players that come in always do well. We can hurdle any difficulty, even Barcelona.

We recovered in the League during an injury crisis and we can continue in the Champions League too.”

Nocerino is expected to start against the European champions and he’s aware of what is at stake for the Diavolo.

I think it is the most important game of my career,” said the summer signing from Palermo. “I hope it is one of the first of a series of massive ties for me.”

The 26-year-old began the campaign slowly, but he’s been sensational in Serie A after bagging nine goals in 27 League games so far.

The criticism which I received gave me the strength to improve,” continued the Italian international.

I’m missing goals in Europe though. I could have scored at Arsenal, but the most important thing for me is to take home points and trophies.”

One of the main reasons behind Nocerino’s unexpected scoring touch has been his link-up play with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ibrahimovic has no reason to envy Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo,” added the former Juventus player. “He’s always won and scored in Italy, the most difficult of championships.

I’m happy to be his teammate and he’s a prodigy when it comes to assists like Antonio Cassano and Robinho. He’s a simple and normal guy, even if he gets annoyed…”

Because he will miss the next match when he gets a yellow?

Looked out of place almost all the time.
It was absolutely not a good performance, but he can't be blamed.
He does the best he can, he runs his ass off, but he simply doesn't have that much quality.
Against Barcelona in a QF, it will show when you can't handle it, and so it did.

Played his usual poor game against teams of quality. Nothing surprising.

Worse in our team, but he played with heart...I mean I already knew he's limited, its normal that it shows up against good sides, so then the least u can ask for is that he puts his heart out there :S.

He wasn't really bad as such, he's not particularly useful on the ball, aside from some alright crosses, and he doesn't win many balls but tonight he wasn't caught out of position, and did a really good job in helping both Ambrosini and Bonera when it could have been difficult.

At least he gets the simple things right.

He was really bad. It is quite evident that he is not good enough to play against big teams.

As usual, useless against the big sides

I am just afraid that the management sees him as a starter next season because of his goals...

Okay I agree with some of you here that say that his play didn't have any big impact on the game's result but that works in both a good and a bad way.Either way he's average. And Milan shouldn't have average players.Although he has been quite helpful this season, I don't think our team should rely on him as a starter.

Ive been of the opinion that he is at best a squad player and Im still of that opinion. His limitations are far too obvious to see when we are facing good teams

What? He had a good game tonight. One of his best non-goalscoring games in fact. Did not misplace passes, and kept his head when being pressurized.

Tonight's the first time I'm considering that he could be a permanent starter for us.

He got around and made it difficult for Barca to get through.

As for passing, meh, nobody made any passes tonight.

Watch the game, look at Seedorf. If you don't see any passes, you are blind.

Noone blames Nocerino, he just isn't talented enough to play these kind of games without looking out of place.

I recall a lot of times that he mispassed the ball. Actually I remember a moment in the game that Ibra told him:"Pass me the ball right at least once"
He wasn't terrible today actually. But below average.

Possible, but our strategy was to hoof it up when we had the ball (Which was the right strategy) - naturally hoofing can't be 100% accurate.

My point is that tonight was one of Nocerino's better games, in terms of his midfield activities. Absolutely no need blaming him tonight.

Whilst I don't think that far, people seem to think he's like Mesbah with a beard, he's reliable, and it's better to have him in your team than a midfield 3 with an average age of 34. I think people would realise his importance if he went missing from the first 11 for a while.

permenant starter? I'll assume that's the case if Milan have no CL ambitions.
