For me, on paper this season is a lot worse than the 97/98. In 97/98 we still had the likes of Weah, Boban, Leonardo, Maldini, Albertini and Costacurta; all good players and the fact that all of them (except Weah) played in WC 98 back up the arguments (we also had Christian Ziege but he wasn't what I call marquee player). Not only that, we also had Kluivert and Desailly in our ranks and they all played an integral part in their National Team that ended up in WC 98 semifinal.

As for coach, after the disastrous Tabarez debacle followed by the Sacchi's second stint, we were glad to have Fabio Capello back at the helm. With all his success in Milan and Real Madrid, at that point in time Capello was held in higher esteem and respect than Allegri at the moment (still is).

Now, before 12/13 starts, name me one player whose name can be used to complete this sentence "Milan is still good because we have....... (insert player name)". Pato the ever-injured? El Shaarawy the eager but inexperienced apprentice? Nocerino the surprise of last season? Even when naming these 3 is quite an exercise for me.

When we started the 97/98 season, there was a belief with all the players mentioned above we would surely better the 11th place finish from 96/97 (we actually did better by finishing 1 spot higher at the 10th place). But when the 97/98 season ended, there was not that much frustration and shock compare to the end of the 96/97 season. It's like "OK, last season was 11th, this season's 10th, not much of a shock since we've been there". In fact, in the last 25 years of Serie A, we are the scudetto holder who ended the season with the lowest placing in the league one year after winning the tittle.

In 11/12 we finished at the 2nd place. Can you imagine how shocking it will be if Milan will end the season in the lower half of the table like we did in 96/97 and 97/98? Can you imagine the impact to our already fragile finance? Can you imagine what will be reaction of the tifosi?

Thing is Serie A changed since 97. Decreased specially the presence of star/impact players (that thing that - I think - make line-ups sound powerful).

It's not only Milan (we're probably the last one's to feel it). One look at the line-ups of all Serie A teams in 97 and now, every team look worse nowadays.

Serie A is very, very short of top/proven players now. Ibra and Thiago leaving was just the last of many.

This derby was kinda disheartening so why not watch this derby instead :)

It's an Inter blooper reel actually, which makes it so much better.

Gunnar Nordahl, Man this guy is a legend why people don't mention him as one of the best in Milan's history?

They do...

He just has a problem in that he played like 60 years ago.

And how people can say that we didn't have an incredible team back with Carlo is just baffling...

On talent alone, it's like... up there with the greatest.

Man, Tomasson was sick that season.

I know i've asked this before, but is there any way to get full matches from around this era?
