Let's not act like hiring Alonso was Leverkusen planing to win an actual trophy
They were in danger of relegation when they hired him and he didn't even have experience at coaching a 1st team. I think the parallels with hiring Pioli amongst #PioliOut Tweets all over the global trending lists as some sort of caretaker only to see him winning the league title the next season with plenty of tactic analists being in awe of Piolismo and doing tons of videos of this new kind of mixed man-and-zone-marking are there. I can't be the only one seeing them?
Who knows if Alonso isn't going to live long enough to see himself become the villain too in a couple of years?
Alonso's blitz start in his coaching career is impressive, but he has yet a lot to prove before being compared to Pep or others who have won plenty and in subsequent seasons.
