Scored another hattrick. 101 league goals total I think. 22 in all competitions this year as far as I know. Which would make like 12 or 13 league goals.

Cmon now. Ronaldo would be a machine @ Bartha too. Maybe he'd need to adjust. Maybe he'd take the #9 role. But he's too good to not.

as for your point on la masia. You've played football I assume. Chemistry, movement is key to teamplay. When you play a specific style for a decade+ with many of same players, same tactical principals etc. you will play better. On the flip side watch madrid or other teams who bring in a lot of new players. There is a lot more mistimed passes, late runs etc.

Like I said this is what I admire most about Bartha... there commitment to this, which around what (2003/4) changed from from trying to win a pissing contest w/ madrid on transfer market.

As for argentina 2014. It certainly seems they could except I really wonder about the defense.

You could lineup midfield and attack with tevez, di maria, pastore, messi, banega, mascerano and in 2014 when they are all between age 25-30 it can be unstoppable. But who is behind them? Sergio Romero and Burdisso. I cringe.

Ronaldo could be a #9 at the club, actually. You're right. My point is I'm not quite sure he would have developed into the effective player he today had he been a product of this particular club's youth system. Maybe he would have though, it's impossible to tell. I don't say that as if he's lacking talent. Things have just turned out well for him the way he's developed.

And again, yeah, Argentina's defense will again be their undoing unless they have young quality players that have not yet appeared on the scene to play there. And that's kind of unlikely.

An interesting player for Argentina is Lavezzi. His chemistry with Messi seems very good already. You would know more about him as he plays with Napoli. He has impressed me 3 or 4 times though, although I've been told he is not consistent.

i love lavezzi. He's having a great year

Last couple years from napoli he was missing that consistency. One great game, one poor one. Kind of like Zarate (if you're familiar). Still generally one of best players in serie A on his day, he's tough too, which i like. He terrorized Milan a month ago when Milan played Napoli. If Hamsik showed up for the match they could have gotten a result but it was just a one man show.

I believe EPL clubs and jube wanted him but napoli wanted atleast 25 mil

He looks more to assist though. Did you know he's never had 10 goals in a season for napoli. PRetty poor for a forward. This year though, they finally got him a good CF (Edinson Cavani... now there is a perfect #9 for Bartha) who is finishing regularly... Lavezzi is towards top of serie A in assists (5 or 6) so far with countless others he created.

But theres no shortage of left side options for argentina to partner w/ messi.

Sidenote: Apparently Lavezzi's good friends with messi. Messi was seen in milan (over a previous international break) and there all those rumors moratti wanted to meet him to get him @ Inter etc. but in reality he was apparently eating out and going to clubs with Lavezzi.

Still think if argentina is going to play messi on RW (with tevez or higuain @CF) and Pastore at CAM, Di Maria might be the better option @ LW cause he offered much more defensive work. Then again Lavezzi doesn't really defend cause he doesn't play a deep role for napoli, so maybe if he's put in it he can do same thing. Lavezzi's the better player going forward though

LOL Mano Menezes is saying something like "go fuck yourself, Douglas!" at the start of the video. :D

Hmm. I would say, looking at friendlies of Argentina, that di María will be first choice on the left because of the work ethic you mentioned. And it's not as if he has no connection with Messi, it's just that he and Lavezzi seem to click instantly. Although if Argentina chose to play a double pivot, including Mascherano and say, Banega, they could afford to have an exclusively attacking left sided player like Lavezzi.

Also, to put Messi on the right works, yes. But it limits his influence on the game. That is why Guardiola has put given him the central role for Barça I think.

What you say about Messi going to nightclubs with Lavezzi sounds so weird to me hahaha! I'm sure you're right about it, I mean it's just very strange to think of Messi like that xD I'm used to thinking of him as little more than a footballer who usually looks quite rough :D

Also, why do you say Bartha? lol

I know you're saying it instead of Barça but I don't follow. My only guess is the "th" sound in English is similar to the C in Barcelona? If so, when you say Barça, is not so much the th sound of English, that's more when you say Barcelona.

Off Topic: They would have (Assumption) :

Nicolas Pareja (29 then)
Burdisso (33)
Carruzo(29)
Otamendi (26)
Insua (25)
Ansaldi (27)
Jonas (30/31)

Hopefully some talented youth like Leonel Galeano (23 then), Ezquiel Munoz (24 then, Palermo) and Mateo Mustacchio (24 then, been Excellent for Villarreal) make the cut.

Cant think of any good right backs and Zanetti will be 41 by then and dont think he will be able to maraud that right side at that age. Ansaldi is the only player that i named that can play RB but hes left footed and better at LB. IMO the right side will be their issue unless they use Jonas Gutierrez again.

They have good enough young talent to make it through, really depends on their Copa America performance. They will be uner pressure to win that as its in their backyard so then we could see what kinda of team is put out.

Yeah just mocking the spanish and particularly catalan accent. I've spent some time there and it cracks me up. Especially since spanish i grew up learning is closer to mexican or central american (being as I live in california for obvious reasons)

Admit it, it sounds pretty femanine when they talk, lol

Iniesta + Xavi... I mean if you closed your eyes and heard them speak you'd think they were gay men, not world class footballers

@ your messi point with lavezzi. I noticed it too. I found it interesting end of game Messi was the "cf". I'm not sure whats best way to align the attack. No shortage on options. What are your thoughts on Mesis + Tevez together. For me when it happens, Tevez almost always overshadows him.

aaaaah!

Yeah, there is a difference for sure! People say that in Catalunya, the language is spoken in a lazy way. You should hear how they speak in Andalucía haha. The word 'cabeza', for example, is said in Spain similar to the C of Barcelona I guess. But in say Argentina, it's a simple S sound. People also say that the Spanish of Argentina is more romantic.

lolol for Xavi, it's just that he's softly spoken or whatever. In Catalunya, there are people with very deep accents, so I'm not sure if it's the language. Iniesta speaks a very strange way, he's not from Catalunya. A TV show based on Barça makes fun of his accent & the character who plays him calls himself IniestEH, for example lol.

Messi will never be a complete CF. He's not good enough in the air, he doesn't want to hold the ball up etc. However, he has really mastered the central role given to him at Barça. That role is supported by the rotation of the front three though, leaving David Villa and even Pedro/Bojan/Iniesta in the middle at times. Do Argentina have the players to play that way? Of course. Should they? Not necessarily. Just because Messi has the role which suits him perfectly for his club doesn't mean the national side should do everything to accommodate him, world's best player or not.

If Gonzalo Higuaín is the first choice as CF, having Messi out on the right for the purpose of width is perfectly fine. No one better for the job. If they want to build the team around Messi's influence, which is kind of likely, he will be given the central role at the expense of Higuaín possibly. There are so many options for Argentina with their attacking options!

Lavezzi and Messi have chemistry, it seems. If a role can be found for Lavezzi, as a luxury attacking player, it could be great. That would probably require more defensive cover, as I said before. Maybe a double pivot of Banega and Mascherano.

As for Tévez, he and Messi are great friends. When they play together, it's hard to say. Because what you said about Tévez overshadowing Messi can be easily put down to the fact that a hardworking striker with freedom to roam can be used in a ridiculous amount of systems, always useful. Tévez is effective at what he does, though usually comes undone against better sides. He doesn't exactly lack chemistry with Messi either, they have worked together. It's down to the roles, I guess. It's easy to see how Tévez was more effective under Maradona since there was no real plan, more of a free for all lol. I think they can be great together in a front three based on rotation. Tévez isn't as effective when partnered with another striker, in my opinion, he's at his best when he has license to roam, so even playing Messi behind Tévez and another may fail.

Argentina have so many attacking options with the problem of Messi, Tévez and from what you tell me, Lavezzi being the main source of creativity for their clubs. They can't all have this for Argentina. That's for me why di María will be given the role on the left, he's a disciplined system player.

Again, as always, it depends on what you're looking for. In a way there are too many options lol.

Thats really funny cause I was going to say 'for what it's worth, i find people from southern regions like sevilla having worst accents'. (which would be andalucia). My first spanish teacher in like 1st grade was from sevilla, i still remember her accent and how she tried to make us all speak like homos. Then when I travelled there I literally couldn't communicate and I consider myself close to fluent (atleast conversational)

Accents are interesting though. It's pretty funny to look at italy for example too.... like gattuso v. maldini or costacurta. Or whatever the fuck totti and the romans say (I really can't understand a word). Or going into premier league and like difference between teams.

Iniesta is funny. He speaks like he's gay, he looks literally 100% the opposite of a professional footballer, yet he could be the best all around midfielder in the world.

Again, as always, it depends on what you're looking for. In a way there are too many options lol.

Yeah, the thing is they need a coach to create a cohesive team. I don't wanna say like dunga cause his team was stupid but atleast he strived for that. But Del Bosque in 2010 or Lippi in 2006 did same thing, built an actual TEAM instead of constant rotation of in form players and changing tactics.

Personally if I was argentina's coach I'd focus on ball posession to try to cover up the lack of defensive strength. Meaning I'd possibly drop Pastore even if he is the only AM. Use a midfield of Mascerano, Banega and maybe Gago? (he needs to move to a club where he can PLAY). Actually what gets me is how Cristian Ledesma NEVER got capped and is now 'italian' He's been pretty damn good for Lazio for 4 years now. Closest thing to a xabi alonso-type player. Pretty good defensively, good passer, generally very good CM. Maradonna literally capped every professional athlete with argentine blood except him.

Anyway, then I'd go with Messi and someone playing off a CF. Perhaps Lavezzi and Messi behind Tevez... or messi behind tevez and higuain. Or screw it Pastore behind Messi and tevez?

I don't think they can really expect mascerano and banega to be able to cover up that excuse for a defense they have (minus Samuel who will probably be too old come 2014).

It's interesting, all signs point to a brazil v. argentina final come 2014. In Brazil, I can't see Brazil losing but you're talking about Messi and there 'golden generation' being all between 26 and 30

Another day, another gol.

Messi has now scored 15 goals in his last 10 games for Barça, breaking Ronaldo's record of 14 goals in the same time.

54 goals in 48 official games with Barcelona in 2010.

Luis García - "Messi is a phenomenon. One can only enjoy him playing. Such a player only comes by once in several decades."

Mascherano - "Messi? We can only repeat, it will take a long time before we see a player like him"

Thats really funny cause I was going to say 'for what it's worth, i find people from southern regions like sevilla having worst accents'. (which would be andalucia). hahaha, it's a local thing, and not a good one. Should not be forced on others.

Iniesta is funny. He speaks like he's gay, he looks literally 100% the opposite of a professional footballer, yet he could be the best all around midfielder in the world.

The hardest thing is moving to another country and trying to adopt any accent there. Nightmare.

hahahaha Iniesta is unique. He's so humble and innocent or something. He's kind of child-like that way. Interesting thing about him is that he's really into facebook/twitter, updates shortly after each match. Only other twitter user on the team is Puyol. Oh and maybe Adriano.

That's exactly what is needed quickly for Argentina. The base of a squad that will play consistently together and will be still around in 2014. Otherwise, it will be another mess of a side riding their luck.

Personally if I was argentina's coach I'd focus on ball posession to try to cover up the lack of defensive strength. Meaning I'd possibly drop Pastore even if he is the only AM. You would know more about Ledesma than I but as for Gago, I'm not a fan. Not because of his current club, but just as a player in general. He seems to get murdered against decent sides. He won't be part of Mourinho's plans. I would definitely play Mascherano and Banega though. Both can defend and play in a position-based system (Mascherano's passing is underrated by many).

Anyway, then I'd go with Messi and someone playing off a CF. Perhaps Lavezzi and Messi behind Tevez... or messi behind tevez and higuain. Or screw it Pastore behind Messi and tevez?

This is where it gets complicated lol! So many options, surely there is one attacking formation that will be very successful, they have time to find it.

I don't think they can really expect mascerano and banega to be able to cover up that excuse for a defense they have (minus Samuel who will probably be too old come 2014).

Like I said before, I can only hope for their sake that they have good defenders coming through. Their best bet is trying to protect it for now with a duo of Banega-Mascherano.

Also my two favourites for 2014 (early days of course). Xavi will be what, 34 then? And Spain need Xavi. Badly. Fàbregas can not replace him. Germany also have a wealth of good young players so I would never rule them out. I kind of hope for Argentina (I don't really follow Spain).

It must kill Barca fans that no matter how good their boy is, one player is always a step ahead of him. :D

23 goals and 9 assists are the latest.

a grand total of 0 coming from penalties.

23 goals from play already :proud:

10 games in a row (including his brilliant winner against brasil) :proud:

surpassed ronaldo's record :proud:

As a sidenote, Messi played against Mourinho when he was just 16 for the first time, when Barça played Oporto.

Since then, Mourinho has called Messi a diver, the best young player in the world and then simply the world's number one.

Strange relationship lol.

I disagree on Gago. He was awesome at Boca. Better than Benega. He moved to Madrid WAAYYY too early. Some players can handle that jump asap, but most cannot. And with Xabi Alonso coming his fate was sealed.

He's still only 24 with many years under him. I don't buy he's the next redondo, but he could be similar. He was very good madrid's nightmare season under Juande Ramos. If he made a move like Banega to a more modest club, I bet he'd be starting at a bigger club now.

In my opinion, for 99% of young players, it's so much situation to develop.

Like I said before, I can only hope for their sake that they have good defenders coming through. Their best bet is trying to protect it for now with a duo of Banega-Mascherano.

I just don't think that's enough of a central midfield with there defense. If they had more in defense sure, but they don't. Banega does a good job, but in a 2 man.... again ur asking mascerano to do the work of too many

Sidenote: As much as I don't like him.... so stupid to not take Cambiasso to world cup 2010. Cambiasso + Mascerano + Banega might have been enough to seal defensively frailties and let messi and co do there thing.

Zanetti too, but that one's even more obvious.

nah spain don't need xavi. Not cause he's bad or anything but cause they r stocked.

IF you notice they only won the final cause of fabregas. Xavi just bled the ball to death and kept posession but did nothing decisive.

spain 2014 could be something like pedro (26), Torres (30), David Silva (28), Iniesta (30), Fabregas (27), Busquets (26).... still all in prime.

Eitherway the options are there but the key is clearly the back, something they really didn't have in previous wc failures. With Pique they'll be a force.

Meh, Messi has been playing on another level.

I still stand by my point. I wanna see him do it for another team (NT presumeably) before I can in good faith put him ahead of Ron

Ron @ Man UTd, Madrid and Portugal have all been world class.

Messi has done it in 1 system for his career.

olympic gold and a world cup??? as for ronaldos 2004 i could say it was played in portugal and had a world cup winning coach as manager see how stupid that sounds as a counter argument.

messi is a barca legend why should he leave ? he could be their maldini or maybe maldini isnt really as great as we milan fans make him out to be i mean he never changed leagues/teams either

08 ronaldo better from 08-present day messi is better come may 2011 who knows? for now he is ahead.

personally id rather a maldini type carrer where you become legendary club icon for 1 club and that is what messi can be for barca.

yeah well my point was I wanna see him do it for national team. You site Maldini, but Maldini was also a legend for Azzuri. He would have Cap record if he didn't retire early and Cannavaro didn't get about 15 undeserved ones when he was CLEARLY not good enough...

Ron has proven himself among best in world for two clubs in 2 different leagues. That's all

If I am to be honest I can't really separate the two anymore (in the past I was much more ardent Ron is better!), but I gotta side with Ron on this point.....

Anyway you slice it though, I feel like it's these 2 and then a HUUGE gap

Anyway you slice it though, I feel like it's these 2 and then a HUUGE gap

hes 23 he can make it to 3 more world cups, 2 at least and copa americas as well, he still has time, argentina were with a noob coach at the world cup that they barely qualified for.

ron is an unbeleivable player they both put 4 past spain after the world cup, in my opinion they are the same at international level but club wise messi is ahead.

watever way you see he lead his club to 6 titles in a years, i dont care if you were playing football in the heart of congo 6 titles in 1 year is a huge deal.

Does it really matter if you do it for one club only or u do it for 2 or more??

Well no, but it helps your case if you've been amazing everywhere you've been, in several different positions (LM, RM, CF, ST).

Messi's been brilliant for Barca, but I want to see him play equallly as well for Argentina and if possible, in a different league.

Zidane - Great in Spain, Italy, and for France.
Ronaldo - Great in Italy, Spain (x2) and for Brazil.
C. Ronaldo - Great in England, Spain, and very good for Portugal.
Messi - Great in Spain...

You don't have to play in different leagues, but it's an extra thing to have on the cv.

At this point in time Ronaldo is ahead. Both still have a way to go before they are up there with the Zidane/Ronaldo's of this world though. The unfortunate thing for Ronaldo is that whilst he's hated, Messi is loved. Whenever they're 50-50, it's going to be Messi who get's the awards. 06/07 was a perfect example. How Messi was actually ahead of Ronaldo for one of the main awards is beyond me.

Yeah, right. As soon as he looses his speed, he will be booed off Nou Camp :o

so you wouldnt like a great player play for your favourite club for his whole carrer and become a legend. you obviously dont appreciate maldini at all.

as for the losing his speed, barca isnt a club like milan they differ in that when they think a player is losing it they will sell.

@ manutfan messi carried argentina at the world cup, everything they created was because of him

I'd agree with this.

I do think when all's said and done, they WILL be on the level of zidane, ronald etc.

It's not about what I want, it's just the Catalan way. Them selling it also contradicts with hoping he would become a Paolo level legend.

A player can play his entire career in the same team if he wants to, no issues with that, he could go on to be a legend this way too or he could prove himself elsewhere. Im not for nor against. The only thing separating Messi/CR from Zidane and Ronaldo is a World Cup trophy to go along with all their other accolades.

For me at the moment its close between the 2 but i think Messi is just 1 step ahead. Of course come Monday a lot of opinions could alter.

Another important factor that you seem to miss out is that whichever clubs CR has been at [2], hes had the good fortune to work with 2 of the best coaches in the world/game [SAF n Mou] where as Messi makes up for that with the good fortune to have played with some of the best players/passers of the game.

So as i said, pretty close, both have pros and cons. If one was to choose it would be either by pure bias or hardcore stats.

.

Obviously a player can stay with the same club and be one of the best players in the world, but Ronaldo can turn to Messi and say I've been world class for two different clubs in different leagues, as well as playing great for my country. What response does Messi have to that?

if you read my post fully you would see i pointed that out ;)

@manutdfan messi actaully won a worldcup what does ronaldo have to say about that

and as for the they only need a worldcup to be with zidane/real ronaldo, they need way more than that, ronaldo at the end of his career was scoring at the world cup, zidane lead his country to qualify and reach the final.
