Dude :head: I know were our players can play ..just make up a first 11 and see if we really got quality back ups cause we don`t .

That's the point exactly. Sure we have enough players to keep 11 on the pitch, but can anyone of our subs come off the bench and make any difference? You can't expect the same great 11 we have to be able to pull through the entire season...it's called fatigue and injuries.

Tell me this. Who is going to replace Kaka and Pirlo if they both get injured?

Exactly.

Guys, every team has players that cannot be replaced when injured. If we had 25 world class players everyone would be complaining they didnt play enough. I dont think our back up players are that bad.

That's not my point. Of course players like Kaka and Pirlo can't be fully replaced, but we are reliant on them so heavily that if god-forbid they did get injured, we be...well...fucked. We need more depth.

Welcome Pato to our team. I hope he will come good, I know he's talented, but after all he's just a kid. A Brazilian type of player, he's still yet to mature, and hopefully he'll be kept in safe hands. :D

Duck! Duck! Duck!

I can't think of a player who could come close to replacing kaka when needed who would be happy to wait on the bench for that to happen.

If I've said it once, I'll say it again... I really really hope he lives up to expectations IF he's our only signing this Summer...

I have a feeling that him and Gilardino would be a great partnership. Really, if it clicked between him and Gila they could dominate the Serie A.

I just hope that he doesn't become another Serginho or Cafu (in their attitude) of course it's great, but sometimes it just doesn't help you on the field. Same with most Brazilians really, it either works perfectly, or it ruins everything. I hope that in the 4/5 months that he'll spend without playing, he'll get some experience from Milan experts and from Milanello. That he needs to be a bit serious on the field. (Yes, I've seen him play)

Anyway, it's too early to judge. Just hope that The Duck could succeed out of the zoo.

Seriously our problem remain the same, we ONLY need a striker, a midfielder, and a defender/fullback, or in my set is a cassano, an emerson and zambrotta-- if we ever show interest on him. We have one allready in a form of a duck, and i welcome him, Pato.

----------------------------Dida-------------------------------
-----Oddo----------Nesta----------Kaladze--------Jankulovski--
-----------Gattuso----------Pirlo-------------Seedorf----------
----------------------------Kakà------------------------------
------------------Ronaldo-----------Gilardino------------------

Let's say thats our team

Dida : Kalac; Storari, Fiore ( Storari is my favourite because Kalac :head: )

Oddo : Cafu, Bonera, Simic
Nesta/ Kaladze : Maldini, Simic, Bonera
Jankulovski : Serginho, Favalli
(Donet know where Darmian and Digao play)

Gattuso : Brocchi, (Ambrosini)
Pirlo : Gourcuff
Seedorf : Gourcuff, Ambrosini
Kakà : Gourcuff ( or change Seedorf to Kakà's position and bring in Ambrosini or Gourcuff on Seedorf's position)

Gila : Pippo
Ronaldo : :conf: Pato ?

This looks like a back-up plan but some players aren't good enough but it's the only thing we got and we have to play with these players.
Gourcuff can cover alot in the midfield which is good because then he can play alot :)

you've answered your own questions, ;) .As for emerson, he is good, valuable rotation he can take any positions on the midfield.

I'm pretty confident he'll fit in. He's got 5 month to fit in before he even plays. And it's not like nobody speaks his language. There shouldn't be any problems there + for Leonardo to notice him as a great player, he must be able to fit in. At least it's not a panic buy like Oli.
I've seen nothing of him so i can't say anything about his playing style fitting to Serie A but from video's he seems a little too attached to pointless tricks right now.

Almost all the players you mentioned are inexperienced and have virtually won nothing. I wouldn't call Bridge, Ferraira, SWP... quality depth more like overrated.

We have adequate cover for every position. In some positions we have 3 players + who could play in that respective role. Out of the players available on the market, they are either on par with the players we currently have or below Milan's quality. There is no point signing players for the sake of signing players. They have to add something to the squad and improve the quality. There aren't many players out there who fit the bill at this point in time and the ones that do either the club wont let them leave or they honour their contract and are remaining. There is also the January transfer market to reinforce the squad. May I also add that the market is far from shut.

Not to mention the primavera players who also have to step up to the big time. How big do you want our squad to be?

You basically missed my entire point. Sure we have adequate cover for every position but some of them just aren't good enough especially in comparison with other big teams. And don't say we've won CL they haven't etc. Our first team won the CL, not our back-up players, our 2nd team versus other big team's 2nd teams would more than likely lose out.

Also, your point about the January transfer market and the transfer window being still open is irrelevant because its the same one I made. We have enough depth to do well until January IMO. But if we get any serious injury to players or our first team becomes fatigued, which is very likely during this season because of all the competitions we're in then not many of our backup players would be safe enough IMO in a very big match.

In addition, the depth we have aside maybe the strikers and 1 or 2 midfielders don't bring competitiveness. Which is something we lack throughout the team leading to average performances at times and is an area we can really improve upon.

P.S: This is a good argument going on. Let's keep it clean

Yes but of course you can talk hyperthicals and say "if our big names get injured" well our whole team could get injured. Even players we consider purchasing might come over and get injured.

Our squad is big enough and we have experience and a lot of talent within the squad. Our team gels and has a will to win despite who takes the stage. We have players of the highest level. When you have players like Simic being your fourth choice CB or even 5th choice... you know you're doing well.

My concern with our backups is that they are simply that, few of them can realistically break into the first 11. Fair point that some of them example Simic are reliable but still we lack that competitiveness which makes everyone perform better because there are other people who can challenge you for a place. I agree with your earlier point that we don't want 25 WC players frustrated at not playing but maybe a couple new signings in January to deal with the expected loss of many of our old players will rectify this problem.

Pato for example is the sort of signing that we need. He's young, hungry and wanting to prove himself. I'm not saying we go out and buy a whole bunch of young inexperienced players because IMO an experienced player can be hungry and wanting to prove himself also. That's the beauty of new blood. Hopefully the promoted youngsters from the primavera can do that.

So can Gourcuff, there is no need to buy youngster if you won't let them play :)

Didn't mean to budge in, but going with your discussion, I also had a point to make related to Pato.

Concerning our defense, I'm beginning to agree with San Paolo. For the upcoming season, we're pretty well covered in defense. Watched the game against PSV and was delighted with Kaladze's performance albeit them not playing with the likes of Farfan. I think its safe to rely in the old guns (Sergi, Cafu, Maldini and Favalli) for one more season.

I'm not keen on procrastinating any transfers for the January window, but if younger defensive replacements will be available then, I think its a less competitive window since some players would be cup tied. Which is the primary reason why I'm against waiting till January for the acquisition of first team players ala Ronaldo.

In central midfield however, I agree with Pirlo Fan. We had a fully fit squad heading into the Old Trafford Semi Final, yet when Gattuso had to leave the pitch, we lost domination of the midfield. We never did get around to covering up Vogel - yes I know, fringe player ... but a capable one at that - and with Clarence now primarily being employed further forward, there's room for a decent central midfielder.

In attack, as much as I'd like to see us sign another forward, I'm not sure whether competition from four other forwards is the atmosphere Pato needs to develop. This is why I suggested elsewhere that we should move for an attacking midfielder/winger and play the first half the season with three forwards - rotating between the 4-3-1-2 and 4-4-1-1 when necessary. Not only would the attacking mid/winger give cover for Clarence and Kaka' in the 4-4-1-1, but when Pato would be eligible to play, wouldn't be a direct competitor to him + could be used in other positions making us more versatile. If the addition's a winger, we could bring him on as a sub ... giving us more width - similar to what Sergi used to be before moving to LB.

We could also do with a younger promising GK in our ranks soon.

All in all, what I'd like too see are two more signings ... a central midfielder and an offensive midfielder or winger. Both of good quality + ~ 25 years of age. Another reason why we won the UCL was because Manchester had ran out of options at the back + Chelsea had defensive + midfield problems of their own. A long season is bound to take its toll. You'd be surprised at how much a player or two could vastly increase our depth and options.

It does look bogus but I like the tight stripes on it. I have to many Italia and Milan jerseys losing numbers with the iron on shit. My kids won't be able to wear them!

I disagree. We have to many injury prone players in the defence. How long have you seen the likes of Kaladze stay fit for an entire season? He always gets injured. Well even Maldini and Nesta seem to be picking up a lot of injuries and that could leave us with the likes of bonera and simic as center backs. Well they might do well againts teams like Seina but will probably be murdered againts bigger teams. Lets not forget that Cafu, Seginho and even Janku are injury prone players. The best decision would have been to replace some of them with new players or just bring in some quality subs. We also have the same problems upfront. Well as for the midfield, we could add a player but we already have 3 defensive midfielders in rino, ambro and brochi. I guess 1 of them would have to make way.

Mad, I agree very very much with your post. I really don't get why, but I feel satisfied with what we have on defense (Nesta-Kaladze= world class partnership, Nesta-Maldini every 5 games=world class partnership, Bonera is a reliable backup -he was fundamental for us from December till March-, Simic is also a reliable backup, I can live with Marek-I know he isn't the best in the world defending, but he isn't as bad, Oddo only needs to work out his crosses-which were good back in Lazio-, Favalli is someone that will-hopefully-only play 10 matches in the whole season, and he is capable of, same goes for Serginho and Cafu). Would I like it to be younger? Of course, and we will also have trouble with injuries (hopefully not as many as in the last seasons, specially because I believe that with a proper preseason some of those injuries can be prevented), but the only defense that I feel are bettter than ours are Inter's (mostly for depth and age). Roma's is equal to ours, and so is Chelsea's.

On midfield I was thinking about the possibility of playing Gourcuff as a Pirlo backup, or as a Seedorf backup (I ended up thinking he would be better in Pirlo's position). And then thinking about the strikers, well with Pato there till January, I also thought it was unfair to get another guy. So I was also thinking about the need for a winger, a wild card we can use as a surprise element, a guy that will help out in midfield and the forwards. And not only that, with a winger we can have so much more possibilities of different tactics, so that we don't end up in our main problem at the start of last season, being too predictable.

Ancelotti thought the same at the end of last season. I think that is why he was lobbying for Ribery.

Next season is going to be the season IMO which you will see a host of signings. Especially in defense. It's inevitable that the likes of Maldini, Cafu, Serginho are going to be pushed out. We might still keep a hold on Cafu and Serginho but not so much really to play. More of a role that Billy Costacurta had at the club in the past season.

Looking out our current squad the midfield is probably an area which we should purchase another player, depending on where Kaka is going to be fielded of course.

I read this morning that Domenico Morfeo is being pushed out of Parma due to disciplinary reasons. He would represent a good signing IMO. He knows Gilardino's style of play like the back of his palm. Vice versa. Gilardino and Morfeo could win us games alone and might be a handy option before Pato arrives in January.
