long time no see@Benjamin, whether he won or not, far too many successful teams have had Pirlo as their linchpin for it to be a mere coincidence. And to think we let him go for van bommel, of all people.
Had we kept Pirlo, we would have been in a much better state now, with a decent enough midfield for him to leave behind as he retires... we would have remained competitive at the highest level.
Forget Ibra, Pirlo is the most dominant player in Italian football for the past 14 years... the master magician...

Del Piero dominant
The only thing he has ever dominated is the Juve dressing room.

the closest he's been to the Golden Ball is 5th ...not even on the podiumSerie B topscorer? Italian Player of the Year? Dude.
Toto Di Natale > Alex Del Piero
Why does Pirlo have to be Top something ?
He is a guy that plays in front of the defense so why should he have the most goals/assists ?
Forget about his long balls , his ability to find players in a position where they are one pass short of a goal is unrivaled.
You don't HAVE to be the top of anything....but it's a fairly decent guide at gauging where a footballer stood in the constellation of fellow stars and greats.
For the description you gave, I can mention Zidane, who also happened to win the WOPY three times....despite never leading in goals or assists. The thing is, ZZ was recognized by the footballing world and was voted by his peers as the best. P!rl0 never was....Even Xavi did better by making it to the Ballon 'D Or podium....It's not enough to be a good cog in a well oiled machine imho. You should be recognized individually to be considered elite.
failSorry but that's really a weak argument , GOAT defender Nesta never made it either , Seedorf too.
Pirlo was more than decisive in Italy winning the WC.
Edit : Most of Zidane's individual awards mean as much as Messi " best player in the WC"
Yeah that would be cool.....We should put warning signs in this thread asking posters to go through the 760 pages of Drucurl and Leaf posts before engaging with the chap's obsession.

fail
Alessandro Nesta:
Serie A Defender of the Year (4): 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003
Serie A Young Footballer of the Year (1): 1998
Seedorf:
Best UCL Mid 2007
I thought you were only referring to Balon d'or and WPOY
Anyway Pirlo is a 3 time Serie A player of the year and so many other stuff
for Juventus
What does this have to do with his status as a player ?
Let me ask you something....was P!rlo ever TOP or BEST ANYTHING for Milan ??
See below:
So if someone from the midfield that had Gattuso , Seedorf and Kaka was playing better than Pirlo then this means that Pirlo was shit ?
It doesn't mean that he was shit. Far from it. That midfield was world class.
However Kaka is not the greatest player of all time. He is definitely in our legends but there were arguably better players that played for us.
Neither is Seedorf.
Neither was Gattuso.
So the fact that P!rl0 was (generally) inferior to them all should put things into perspective. I'm trying to develop a holistic argument, rather than hinging my entire opinion on one particular parameter of judgement.
Keep in mind that my initial posts were geared toward answering madtherchot's initial post that P!rl0 was the most dominant player in Italian football in the last 14 years. All of these grandiose comments about the guy are patently false and merely a product of his fans' emotional response to the fantastic skills that he showed from time to time.

Pirlo >>>>> Zidane
Pirlo >>>>> Zidane
his moment of glory is 2 headers vs Brazil
