Former FC Dynamo Kyiv, AC Milan and Chelsea FC forward Andriy Shevchenko is set to move into politics after announcing his retirement, saying: "My future will no longer be in football."

Ukraine's all-time leading goalscorer, Andriy Shevchenko, has announced his retirement from football in order to pursue a career in politics.

The 35-year-old confirmed the news in a statement released by his club, FC Dynamo Kyiv, on Friday. "This will probably shock everyone," he said. "My future will no longer be in football. I will give more information tomorrow, but I will be going into politics."

Shevchenko, capped 111 times, scored the last of his 48 international goals in Ukraine's opening match of UEFA EURO 2012, his second-half double helping the co-hosts come from behind to defeat Sweden in Kyiv.

He made his final appearance for the Synyo-Zhovti as a substitute during the 1-0 loss to England in Donetsk, ending 17 years of service for his country during which he captained Ukraine to the last eight of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

One of Europe's most prolific strikers for over a decade, Shevchenko began his career with Dynamo, forming a fruitful partnership with Serhiy Rebrov and finishing as top scorer in the 1998/99 UEFA Champions League as Valery Lobanovsky's side reached the semi-finals.

A big-money move followed in 1999 to AC Milan, for whom he registered 127 Serie A goals, won one Scudetto and converted the decisive spot kick in the 2003 UEFA Champions League final shoot-out against Juventus at Old Trafford.

The recipient of the 2004 Ballon d'Or, Shevchenko left Milan two years later, but a €45m transfer to Chelsea FC did not work out and he returned to the Rossoneri for a loan spell in 2008/09 before making a permanent move back to Dynamo the following summer.

ok?

sheva kissed it.

If badge kissing is your ultimate criteria for determining player worth, it boggles my mind how you hold Ibrahomo-bitch in such high regard.
The man literally kisses a different badge every two years.:lol::lol:

Hypocrite much?

first of all, "ibrahomo-bitch" is just lame and childish. stop that.

i like ibra for totally different reasons, mostly not football related at all (i do think that he's one of the most enjoyable players to watch).

like most milan fans, sheva was one of my favourite players back then. sheva's a milan legend, he got other expectations on him than ibra. ibra's always been a mercenary and that's nothing that he's tried to hide. i respect that.

Sheva is not only a Milan legend, but football legend in general. He is one of the best strikers ever.

I am not sure I can say either about Ibra, for all his greatness.

My point is, even though Sheva kissed Chelsea's badge, it takes nothing from him as a footballer. By that time he already achieved everything as a footballer.

And if we want to look at it purely from Milan fan's standpoint - it was an epic deal for us. We sold him at his peak when he started declining. Sheva looked like a shadow of himself at Chelski not only because for evil Mourinho.
It was great business for us. Not finding an adequate replacement is a whole different story though.

It's impossible to state my exact feelings for this :star:god:star: in words..

Follow in the footsteps of another fellow Rossoneri great of humble stature..who almost became the first elected president of his country post-war. :proud:

Sir, you ALONE brought that black stripe on my heart waaay back in '03..when you coolly slotted in that penalty past Gigi...YOU MADE ME AN ETERNAL ROSSONERD!! :')

You are a god to me..you are..thank you for everything..thank you for being a true patriot of Ukraine..thank you!! :proud:

I truly forgot what a god of football he was. Thank you for everything Sheva, I remember that superbly curled goal vs Inter in 2005 second leg more than anything, I went crazy shouting about it!
