Kaka makes the wait worth it

FIFA World Player of the Year Kaka returned after an 11-month international absence to inspire five-time champions Brazil to a 4-0 FIFA World Cup™ qualifying victory over Venezuela on Sunday. The 26-year-old AC Milan star was on target after only six minutes and set up the third goal as Brazil moved back into the second place in the South American standings with 16 points, four behind leaders Paraguay. Manchester City ace Robinho also grabbed a share of the headlines with two sublime goals.

Venezuela entered the match buoyed by having won a friendly between the two nations, 2-0, in in Boston last year, ending a run of 17 successive defeats against their illustrious rivals. However, within 20 minutes, any hopes Venezuela coach Cesar Farias had of overseeing another shock were extinguished. With six minutes gone, Kaka beat goalkeeper Renny Vega with a shot from a difficult angle that went in off the post. It was the AC Milan star's 23rd international goal in his 60th appearance.

Four minutes later, Robinho made it 2-0 when he cut inside from the left and drove the ball into the back of the net from 30 yards. By the 20th minute, it was 3-0 with troubled striker Adriano, recalled this year after a series of fitness and disciplinary problems, finding the net from close range. Kaka had broken from midfield and sent Elano, another Manchester City player, free down the left-hand side. His shot fell invitingly for Adriano to beat Vega and to justify his selection by coach Dunga who was deprived of the injured Luis Fabiano.

Venezuela had chances to hit back before half-time as Brazil's defensive frailties looked in danger of being exposed, but Alejandro Guerra, Jorge Rojas, Juan Arango and Giancarlo Maldonado wasted opportunities. Adriano was booked on the stroke of half-time, meaning he will be suspended for Wednesday's game in Colombia.

Brazil keeper Julio Cesar was twice called on early in the second half to save from Maldonado at close range. Venezuela, the only South American team never to have played in a FIFA World Cup, paid for their wastefulness after 69 minutes when Robinho added his second goal after being put through by Kleber. Robinho controlled the ball superbly, steadied himself and slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

At first, I was concerned about this picture. Then I realised Dunga just wants to borrow Ricky's shorts because he's just realised he's wearing the worst trousers in the history of trousers.

The goal reminded me of the one vs Bayern some years ago, but it was even better cause he nailed it just in the angle. A world of a difference this Brazil with him around running (+ Adriano is getting back, which is a scary thought, the way he took the ball out of a venezuelan defender reminded me of 2004 Adriano).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he turn down nr10 when Rui Costa left? Pretty sure he'll keep 22 as long as he stays.

I think he thought that is seen as the number that he wears. It is his number.

It becomes asort of legendary number over time if you always wear it, like Maldini & Baresi & I think that was the overall thinking behind the number 22.

Sorry, just playing with you :) Good pictures though.

It's great that Kaka's starting to find his form with the NT as well. Now I hope he'll be so lucky as to avoid injuries for the whole season and keep this pace up he'll be on the same level he should be.

Brazil's Kaka honored at Maracana

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) - Kaka was immortalized in Maracana's sidewalk of fame on Tuesday.

The Brazil midfielder left his footprints in a section dedicated to the memory of the country's top players.

"Maracana has a great history," Kaka said. "As a football player, to be part of this memorial, to be part of Maracana, it is a great pride."

The AC Milan player's name is next to former all-star Zico. Other stars who left their footprints in the sidewalk of fame include Pele, Romario, Zagallo, Dunga and Franz Beckenbauer.

Maracana once was the world's largest football stadium and accommodated more than 180,000 fans, but reforms have shrunk its capacity to about 70,000. It hosted the 1950 World Cup final, when Brazil was upset by Uruguay.

Another Brazilian expected to be honored on Tuesday was Robinho, for his unique dribble in the team's 5-0 rout of Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier last year. A series of photos of the dribble, in which he used several nifty moves to fool a defender and set up Elano's goal, will be put on display at the stadium.

Brazil, coming off a 4-0 victory over Venezuela on Sunday, faces Colombia on Wednesday at Maracana. The five-time world champion is second in South American qualifying, behind leader Paraguay. The top four nations will automatically qualify.

If you don't care about Kaka or that story, then why the hell are you commenting on it?

What the hell is your problem?
