Yes, the player on the photograph is Eloy Olaya. Eloy (his pile name) was the name that he was known with, and Olaya was only his family name. A fast, quite good winger on the right, who was able to score sometimes.
Unfortunately, he missed the last penalty kick in the match Belgium-Spain during the Mexico 1986 World Cup, and so Spain couldn´t meet Argentina on the semifinal.
I think that Sporting de Gijón had in 1987 a strange roster, with good players too old, and other medium players who did the job.
The midfielder Joaquín was my favourite player. He did put the quality on the grass. But he was then 35 years old.
With Joaquín on the pitch in the Lecce´s game, maybe Sporting de Gijón could have done something more against a very superior AC Milan.
