I would rather see him start alongside monto in a 4-2-3-1 with kaka/honda dropping deep and ses/niang on the wings.

but all in all I think he's doing a very good job at anchor, goodfella is being very harsh.

agree

He looks incredibly good in this years Milan shirt.

Have you ever ask yourself why Honda is free and why noone buy him? Clubs usually do not let best players left as free transfer and in all his history noone pay even cent for him always free transfer.

When you go to shop what you get for free? Big dick.

That will get an AC Milan with his transfer

If hes so fakin good i guess why we lose all fakin games and we have ball posessions like 30% per game lol. Middlefields usually create game after they win in the middle of the field. That statistic about passes not tell anything if he shoot ball to next closest player. I havent seen him once as assistent in game. zzz hes crap as all others...

Bcse hes so fakin good defensive middlefield AC Milan defense is like Swiss chesse full of holes with him as commander who should take controll of the ball on the field out of danger zone and thats why we have 20% ball possesion on all games.

Dude, our possession falls down 10% every time you posts.

Stop posting or else we will not see anything of the ball in our games anymore.

In my vision, Milan's two good formations for this season are 4-2-3-1 (with Kaká) and 4-3-3/4-3-2-1 (without Kaká).

In a 4-2-3-1, there's little doubt his ideal role is a double-pivot with Montolivo, which is a partnership with potential to bo one of the best around.

However, it looks more trickier when we look at a three men midfield formation. He's been playing anchor, and I think he's been doing well so far. But our midfield structure this season is different from the one we had during our best moments last season. Montolivo was usually the central man in this trio, playing as a regista with Flamini and Muntari alongside him, and he found his best football at this role. More than that, Montolivo was key for Milan achieving some great series of results.

This season, De Jong has taken his position. Even though he's doing very well, I think we lose more not having Montolivo there than having Nigel at that spot. But they can still play together. IMO, De Jong should take Gattuso's role when playing in a three men midfield. I think he'd do very well at that role, since he's great recovering balls, and could have more freedom to tackle further up the pitch when the opportunity presents itself. And since he's more technical than Gattuso, he could offer more in build-up in advanced areas, which was something Rino struggled with at times.

The Pirlo goal was a slack giveaway and then an even worse wall setup.

He played a major role in this though, although he can't help he's short.

On set pieces - our players need to learn to mark and stop standing around and the big players take the responsibility of clearing when they can like Ibra did when he was here.

Although marking and lack of concentration is a big part of the problem, the lack of tall aerially strong players is a part of it too. Look how useless Muntari, De Jong and Nocerino tend to be when defending corners, set pieces, high balls. Not to mention Monto, who is very weak aerially for his physique and role.

I think Montolivo is more at fault because its his responsibility to get us going. This midfield can only work if Monty steps up alot and Poli/Muntari play consistent.

We field a CDM who's almost a 3rd CB and yet our midfield is doing a poor job at shielding the backline. This is not just one player's fault, but it says a lot about what a big mess that mid is.

I would rather see him start alongside monto in a 4-2-3-1 with kaka/honda dropping deep and ses/niang on the wings.

but all in all I think he's doing a very good job at anchor, goodfella is being very harsh.

A double pivot partnership is my only hope left for them. It could work. They're both distributors and ball-winners. Monto-NDJ should be creative enough for a CDM duo if they have Kaka/Honda in front of them. It might also solve the lack of cohesion problem by having one less mid to learn to cooperate with. Not to mention, NDJ is used to it, while Monto has a lot of experience of it as well.

Could fail too, though. It'd still be an aerially weak mid, while they often stepped on each-other's toes the last times we tried it.

Its kind of hard to shield your backline if you twiddle your thumbs in possession with a high line and then turn over the ball leading to counters.

You have to choose how you want to play, no?

Ideal formation, yet it will never happen?

He is not an anchor. He is a destroyer. He is suited for a double pivot role or RCM role that Necro was suggesting.

I said this a while ago.. he isn't played in his best position. He can't play as an anchor, he should be used exactly like Gattusso and Monto should play in front of the defense.
Even tho the perfect set up would be a double pivot of DJ-Monty.

I wonder if we're going to switch to 4231 when everybody gets fit.
It's so obvious that it's the formation that fits all off our keyplayers (Balotelli, Kaka, El Shaarawy, NdJ, Monto)
Plus having wingers will help us in the defensive department.

Only problem would be RW/RM..

Niang if he starts performing, maybe Poli (cm-ish rm)

BTW thank god we didn't buy Cerci, some guys on this forum saw how fodder he is, to think I wanted him here....:head: (he's the league's top scorer)

“Another player may score a great goal or do a fine bit of skill,” he told NuSport. “But I prefer a tackle or recovering the ball.

“This aspect of the game is appreciated a lot more abroad than it is in the Netherlands.

“It is something that brings balance to the team and should be seen as a positive.

“I like to do the dirty work – that’s my role.”
