Despite being one of the best defenders with the kind of debonair presence that could melt even the most angry Honey badger’s heart, Italian dish Paolo Maldini has the unfortunate honour of owning the most runners up medals ever amassed by one player. That said, when you consider that the great man has also won most of these trinkets as well, it probably evens itself out. Probably.

I became so nostalgic about Maldini yesterday! I remembered that he is the greatest footballer in history, not just the best defender. We have a saying in Arabic on professors that goes something in line with: Rise before the professor and sing his praise, the professor was almost a messanger. I just replace professor with Maldini because he is more than just a football player.

I was reviewing some Milan history and It kinda shocked me he was never up for any individual award. No Ballon d'Or, No Gala. It's just sad.

Of course Paolo himself won't give a fuck, but I always tell my friends that Maldini not winning Ballon d'Or or Gala is a blow to these award's credibility. not Maldini's.

The other thing that always bugs me is that he never won WC. I mean Pippo, Del Piero, Nesta, Pirlo, Rino, even a schmuck like Giladino won it, but not him.

It was not the whole Curva sud,it was just a group of deluded morons that could never accept that Maldini was the captain of Milan,and Barresi was not anymore.

All curvas are full of idiots. This one had a group of assholes that have had a long way with Maldini since 97-98 (in a game vs Parma)-ridiculous I know, harboring resentment for 11 years-, where the Curva started throwing stuff at players. Maldini felt they were ungrateful cause after all, many of those players they were being ungrateful with were the same ones that led Milan to win everything. Then in Istanbul final, they bumped into a section of the Curva that started criticizing the players in the airport (they called them all sorts of stuff), some of that very same people were the ones that sold part of their tickets to Liverpool supporters, Maldini rightfully called them mercenaries. Unlike other Milan players (+ Galliani), Maldini never cared to attend to Curva based events either.

It may be generalizing, cause at the end it was just a bunch, but its sad that Maldini was given a better send off my Inter fans and by Fiorentina fans in his last match .

And the worse thing was they thought they were being nice to Baresi with those chants, but that day they hurt two Milan legends, cause there's no way Baresi ever felt respect out of that distasteful moment.

I was at that game, I was sitting at the deck below the curva, I was going nuts asking why arent they singing anything for Maldini? it was so quiet it felt like a murder was committed, I hate the curva sud, they can rot in hell, I despise ultra culture, Maldini could not have described them any better, 'mercenaries' this is the best description for 'fans' such as Lazio's who would support Inter against their own team just to see Roma lose the title.. pathetic and disgusting.
