p.s. the example you gave was at the start of our dominance, it was not our peak years which i would say is at around 2005 and for years people have been saying milan need to sign this guy and that guy to solve the problems of their ageing squad. we always have had the oldest squad, and im not saying we shouldnt fix it, im saying i dont want 20 year olds, i want proven players and if there are 20 year olds who look mature enough then ok we should sign them but since that depends on their character then we will never know you need to meet them personally to know how they are and that is why players with composed characters have been able to succeed here like kaka and pato inshallah will while pussies like gilardino failed to repay the price we spent on hiim

my only point was we'll have to replace him in 3 years...and its a revolving cycle.... also one we havent had success w/ recently.... Rivaldo, Oddo, Favalli etc... I do think its important to distinguish the difference in young talent. Theres young well known talent then theres young unproven talent. The first type is what the ManUtd, Real Madrid's of the world attempt to sign (well actuall real just tries to sign anyone period)....but like a c.ronaldo, rooney or a sergio ramos, robinho. And then there is Arsene wenger trying to poach young unknown players and develop them.

I realize 15-25 mil is ALOT for a 20 year old... but thats what we spent on pato. I think the return will be great. Lets say we only have him 12 years... till he's 30. But thats instead of signing 3 older wc players to play his position at probabluy the same cost each time. Plus having a player join at a young age and grow into WC star.... sheva, kaka is just great to watch.

OK, a few things.

I played (and failed miserably :D ) in professional clubs youth teams for years and I've seen many, many kids that can play like that at 11 or 12 end up stacking shelves in supermarkets by 16. Going by that video, this lad looks like a classic early developper - he's bigger, stronger and faster than all the other wee kids, and that's unlikely to last. So what's he left with then? He's left with the ability to do lots of flashy tricks, which, while they look impressive, are not what ultimately will make or break a top class player.

God I can't believe I just dissected an 11 year-old child's footballing ability. Feel a right cunt now. Cheers, thread-started! Which actually brings me to another point - I feel very fucking sorry for this poor lad. What the fuck kind of childhood is he going to have when people are posting videos to be shown worldwide and calling the next Messi/Ibrahimovic/fitever when he's ELEVEN FUCKING YEARS OLD. That's a horrendous amount of pressure to put on him and someone, somewhere - most likely his parents - needs to calm it down and let him develop at a natural pace that won't ruin him both as a footballer and emotionally by the time he hits puberty.

On another note, I was compared to Fabio Cannavaro when I was 12 - I demand that Milan sign me!

29yo is a temporary fix, what we've been getting lately  If you want to build a team for the future, you get 25-26yo AT MOST, if not younger. Everything else speaks of either incompetence or lack of ambition. Of course, there are some exceptions, but when your transfer campaign includes a 31yo defender, a 28 midfielder and a 30yo striker, they are not exceptions anymore.

I would be okay with signing Zambrotta OR Dinho OR <random 30 yo player>, but if he's the exception and we also sign other 4-5 younger players. Hell, I'm okay with two of them in that situation. But when a 24yo Flamini is THE exception and the rest of our signings are close to the end of their careers, I'm not okay.

My 2 cents, not that anyone cares, now flame me if you please.

AGREED

Jivara, I agree with a lot of what you're saying. You don't want to field a squad of kids because of their inexperience and unreached potential, and you also don't want a team full of older players because they are much more likely to break down due to injury or fatigue. In a perfect world, you have a veteran core with some young, talented players infused along the way to provide depth and turnover.

As you said, at the end of the day you want as much talent as possible, regardless of age, but young talent prevents you from having to fill major holes/needs on a regular basis during the transfer seasons. Sure the younger players cost more because most teams aren't looking to get rid of a very young, world class player. It has to be worth their while. We shouldn't sign young players just for the sake of lowering the average age of the team and while there is a lot of risk in dishing out a major transfer fee for a relatively unproven player, there are a lot of younger players who you know are going to be at least very good if not great.

Most very young players are going to either be too expensive (or just unavailable) or too raw to make a significant impact, and most very old players are short-term solutions who probably can't be counted on game in and game out. There is a happy-medium though - players in the 24-27 range who have enough experience to make an immediate impact and enough gas left in the tank to be counted on to perform at a high level for 5-8 years.

The best point I read on this forum regarding the age of signings (I forget the thread and the poster - I think it was you Milano84) was that isn't it smarter, business-wise and football-wise, to acquire a 25m player who can significantly help your team for 7 years than a 10m player who may help your team for 2 years?

We are finally linked with Maggio from sampdoria!!! Well done Milan, with Maggio we will have the best defense around.

RB - Maggio, Oddo, Bonera, Zambrotta
CB - Nesta, Kaladze, Bonera, Maldini
LB - Zambrotta, Jankulovski, Maldini, Favalli

Definitely the best defense in the world!!! Even better if we sign Canini as well and let him learn under our veterans to breed him for the future.

If the reason we sold Sammarco to Samp was to get in good with them and ease our negotiations for Maggio, then it was a genius manuever, but if that wasn't the reason, then we're ******ed.

Mutu given Viola ultimatum

Fiorentina have warned Adrian Mutu they won’t meet his economic demands. “If he leaves, the money will be used to reinvest in a stronger squad.”

The Romanian has been the star player in their ascent to the Champions League preliminary round, but is said to be unsettled by the arrival of Alberto Gilardino from Milan.

It is reported Mutu has asked for a significant pay rise this season, lifting his contract to £3.2m per year.

“Adrian remains Fiorentina’s best paid player, even with Gilardino’s contract taken into account,” pointed out director of sport Pantaleo Corvino on Radio Radio TV.

“In these years he has always shown love for this club, so if he is now making this type of demand it is possible there are other sides behind it.”

Although Corvino did not name specific outfits, Mutu has been linked with Roma, Milan, Bayern Munich and Schalke 04.

“I know that Amauri was sold to Juventus for £20m. If someone thinks Adrian is less talented, then he is valued at less than £20m, but vice-versa if he is considered better.”

Fiorentina are already looking to a future without Mutu and a list of replacements has been drawn up by Cesare Prandelli.

So far the names on that selection include Villarreal’s Giuseppe Rossi, Lazio star Goran Pandev and Udinese’s Italian international Antonio Di Natale.

Differently from u he has the opurtinity to be part of AC Milan. Only if he win MJC Tirana.

Eto'o Wants Milan - Bronzetti

Milan transfer consultant, Ernesto Brozetti, has revealed that Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o wants to join the Rossoneri.

The striker’s agent Jose Maria Mesalles met with Milan chief Adriano Galliani in Milan on Friday evening and the pair spoke about an economic deal for the Barcelona striker.

Eto’o wants an €8m per season deal but Milan only want to offer €7m because the club is afraid other players in the squad will ask for better salaries.

Talks are still on-going as Milan try and reach a deal for the player and Bronzetti reveals that Eto’o is keen on the idea of a switch to San Siro.

“Eto’o has expressed his desire to come to Milan,” Bronzetti told Il Corriere Dello Sport.

“We have met with Eto’o’s agent after president Laporta gaves us permission to.

“The idea is a four-five year deal and if we reach an agreement with the player then we will hold talks with Barcelona."

The Rossoneri have already signed one player from the Blaugrana when they took on Gianluca Zambrotta last week.

They are now trying hard to lure Eto’o to San Siro as they strengthen in order to mount a serious Scudetto challenge next season.

Bronzetti says we have had a meeting with Eto'os agaent and we have agreed to a 4 or 5 year deal. If we find an agreement with Eto'o then we will try to also find an agreement with Barca.

Are you his dad or something? Yes he is good for 11 old, but many kids are good in that age and that doesen't mean he is going to be the next ibrahimovic.

But yes I would want him in Milan. Good youngsters are always a positive thing for our youth team.

I noticed than his oponents was far far away for being talents, but yes I agree if he work hard in coming years and has lucky maybe he can be a professional one day and why not he can proof him self at Milan junior camp . but these thread was exaggerated a little more for just one less or more ordinary kid which plays football with passion,

i dont think signing maggio would be a good option right now i think we should sign him and keep him at samp for another season because were more than covered on right back: zambrotta, oddo, bonera

i read abate wants to return to milan, he said he doesnt want to stay at empoli he prefers to come back to milan but doesnt mind going on an experience somewhere else, i think we should sign him as he can provide good cover for our attacking midfielders and he can add some width to the team since he plays on the wing
